Animal charity Good Life Dog Rescue has over a dozen dogs in their care with some desperately sad backstories.
But now these lovely are on the mend and ready to find a home – do you think you have room for one one your settee?
Although based in Leeds, Good Life Dog Rescue has fosterers everywhere and many of these dogs were rescued at the 11th hour from a Rotherham kennels.
Some of their stories are heartbreaking, like Esther the Staffy cross who was found starved, abandoned and tied to a pole all alone. Now they’re full of love and life.
Many have lost the owners they’ve known all their lives, such as Lily and Winston the shih tzu mother-son duo who would make great companions after the death of their lifelong human.
Or Queenie the lurcher, who was found homeless and unloved with an infected salivary gland but has shown she is full of character and cuddles.

1. Lily and Winston, a mother-son Shih Tzu duo
“Lily is a Chihuahua cross Shih Tzu of twelve years old. Winston is Lily’s son and is ten years old. They are typical of their breed and behave like they live on the property when they are out in the run. They love to be out and about and Lily’s nose never stops touching the grass. They do bark at other dogs however they are small dogs and will be territorial even in their senior years. They are comical and loving and will make someone great companions. These dogs are extremely sweet however have been through such a trauma recently. Not only have they lost their home but they have lost the love of their life and their special human. Our aim is to find them a new start as soon as possible and a very loving home.”

2. Morris the Staffy, who was unbelievably abandoned just before Christmas!
“Morris came into our care on Christmas Eve 2025 from a Yorkshire stray kennels, abandoned and unwanted. This loving and very friendly dog is a Staffy cross. He is adorable and loves cuddles and human contact. He is extremely playful, full of joy and has a spice for life as any pup would. Morris is now looking for a much need new start with someone that adores Staffies and cross breed Staffies. Experience of owning a dog would be beneficial.”

3. Queenie the Lurcher lady with a “beautiful sweet nature”
“This gorgeous girl is a real sweetheart and so loving. She adores a cuddle and being with people and is now loving her walks and company. Queenie has won all our hearts with her affectionate nature and fun-loving outlook on life. We know Queenie has so much love to give and deserves her life of love and luxury. This lady is beautiful with a sweet nature who has also been amazing with other dogs. She shows no aggression at all and has so much to give.”

4. Rolo & Isla, a ‘not at all doddery’ senior duo
“This adorable duo came into our care as an emergency due to the sad death of their owner. After waiting five months in kennels we have struggled desperately to find them a new home. They are not doddery seniors. They walk so well on their leads and are a joy. Their lives were turned upside down and Rolo is thirteen years old and Isla Is eleven. They are comical and adorable. They are so happy having a sofa space and the warmth of a home again. They often sit with their foster mum in her art studio in the garden and mooch in and out without issues. If you feel you can offer this duo a new start then we welcome calls to discuss. We would love to hear from you. We will support veterinary care in a forever foster home.”
