Are K18 hair products worth it?
K18 products are undeniably expensive, but after more than a year of testing, I do think several of them justify the price – particularly if your hair is regularly exposed to bleach, dyes or heat styling. The molecular repair mask and hair oil delivered the most noticeable long-term improvements, leaving my hair softer, glossier and visibly less frazzled between trims.
Not every formula feels essential and some require a bit of trial and error to avoid overdoing it on finer hair types, but across the board, K18 consistently made my hair look healthier without relying on heavy formulas and labour-intensive treatments.
I’d suggest investing strategically rather than buying the full line-up (the airwash dry shampoo is a godsend for oily roots), but the brand more than justifies the occasional, targeted spend.
How we tested K18 products
I tested K18’s haircare consistently for more than a year, incorporating each product into my usual haircare routine rather than trialling them in isolation for a few washes. Most formulas were used until the bottles were completely empty, allowing time to assess my hair’s long-term response, particularly in relation to breakage, softness and split ends.
My hair has a fine-medium thickness, naturally prone to frizz and tangling, and regularly exposed to heat styling. I tested the products while air drying, blow drying, curling and straightening my hair, paying close attention to the following criteria:
- Finish: I looked at how my hair appeared immediately after styling, noting shine, softness, frizz levels, volume and whether my ends looked smoother or less frazzled.
- Long-term repair benefits: I monitored whether repeated use made my hair feel stronger, healthier or less prone to breakage.
- Ease of use: I considered how straightforward each product was to apply, including how well formulas distributed through the hair and whether they layered effectively with other styling products.
- Texture and residue: I assessed whether products felt lightweight, sticky, greasy or crunchy on the hair, and whether they caused any noticeable build-up over time.
- Value for money: Given K18’s luxury price point, I paid close attention to how much product was needed per use and how long each bottle lasted in practice.
- Versatility: I tested whether the products worked in conjunction with heat styling tools, and whether they could replace other steps in my routine, such as conditioner or anti-frizz products.
- Performance across hair types: While I tested most products, I also called on a tester with bleached blonde hair to review the triplebright purple shampoo’s toning abilities, brass-neutralising effect and overall impact on colour-treated strands.
