EVs Have Summertime Accessories For More Than Just Camping

by R.Donald

With eight weeks of official summer left, road trips, off-roading and other summertime adventures are still on the table. There’s also still time to get the right equipment and accessorize to get road trip ready, especially for any plug-in vehicles. And yes, summer adventures often involve car camping, which an EV can power and light up even in the middle of nowhere.

The iKamper Skycamp Mini is made exclusively for Rivian EVs, like the upcoming R2.

With the Rivian R2’s release last month, it’s no surprise that the smaller (and more affordable) electric SUV is already ready for summer shenanigans. At its June launch Rivian showcased a future Rivian-made “Treehouse” tent for the R2.

But in Rivian’s Gear Shop there’s a dedicated page for Adventure Gear already available for purchase. While year-round adventures beckon, a particularly summer-ready option is an exclusively Rivian-compatible car tent. iKamper’s Skycamp Mini ($4,595) goes on the roof or bed of the three available Rivian EVs and provides a mattress for up to two people while camping and claims to take only 60 seconds to set up. Another roof tent in collaboration with Yakima for the R1s fits up to three people ($2,200).

Back in May, the Rivian R1S electric SUV and R1T electric pickup truck were named the best EVs for off-roading, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Jeep x Vineyard Vines

Jeep paired up with clothing brand Vineyard Vines for a summer collection.

Vineyard Vines is a clothing brand already associated with summer, but this summer it paired up with rugged vehicle brand Jeep with a series of summer tees, sweatshirts, hats, bags and even belts mostly aligned with the U.S.’s 250th birthday. Hence the collab has a lot of stars and stripes alongside Vineyard Vines’ classic whale mascot. Jeep is known for its adventure getaway vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler, and now you can accessorize while on- or off-road.

The American car brand now has the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, both plug-ins with 21 and 25 pure electric battery range, respectively.

Bluetti Portable Power Station

Power up in and out of the car.

While EVs are a dependable source of power, while camping or off-the-grid it’s nice to have a backup supply. The Bluetti Elite 100 V2 Portable Power Station is 25 pounds and can recharge through solar or through the car. It offers 1,800 watts of output with 11 ports. It can recharge for 4,000 cycles so you can pack it for many summers to come.

Tesla Summer Collection

A Tesla summer includes camping gear and some limited edition tees.

Tesla has a curated section of its online shop just for summertime. Some highlights include plenty of camping (more like glamping) gear like a Model Y Canopy ($185) or a Model 3 Air Mattress ($235). There’s also limited edition “electric summer” T-shirts ($35).

GMC Summer Accessories

Like Tesla and Rivian, GMC knows summertime is when things happen and get moving—literally. The GMC site has a dedicated Summer Adventures page, complete with bike and roof racks, a sliding truck bed and other add-ons for when things get messy.

GMC’s current electric lineup includes the Hummer EV truck and SUV and the Sierra EV pickup, which all have huge ranges, with some models getting up to 500 miles.
