The woman fears her children could be next
An East Lothian mother has claimed a violent cat is savagely attacking her family dogs – and is worried her children could be targeted next.
The woman says the out of control moggy has been repeatedly attacking her two Spaniels after invading her garden in North Berwick this week.
The mum-of-two posted a picture of the ferocious feline that has been deliberately “terrorising” her pets on a community Facebook page and claims she is now terrified for the safety of her two young children.
The woman wrote on the East Lothian People page: “Have tried to fine (sic) the owner of this cat many times as it is terrorising my dogs in my own garden.
“The cat has attacked my dogs three times now, near their eyes on separate occasions plus just coming in and out of our garden and just terrorising in general.
“I have two small children, one who is two years old and one who is a baby. It is a worry as it’s bad enough it attacking the dogs, but I’m now worried for the safety of my children in their own back garden due to this cat.
“We have several cats in the street that have never been any brother and I have no issue with cats roaming as long as they aren’t harming people or other animals – the owner needs to do something about it.
“We’ve seen it coming through the gaps from the flats on the main high street. If anybody knows who this belongs to please can you let them know that their cat is becoming a problem.”
But instead of offering support many locals in the popular seaside town have been quick to poke fun at the problem saying the woman needs to “get a bigger dog”.
One joker said: “A bucket of water will sort it out.” A second said: “Water pistol works great.”
While a third added: “Get friendly with it, leave food for it, gain its trust. Then, when it enters your house, catch it, put it in a bag and release it in the Lammermuir [hills].”
One concerned local slammed some jokey comments by posting: “There are ways you can deter the cat from your garden without harming any animals. There’s no need to promote animal abuse for a cat that knows no better and probably feels threatened which is why it attacks. Be better.”
The woman who posted the original message replied: “At no point have I said I would be hurting the cat nor am I promoting animal abuse.
“All I would like is for my dogs to stop nearly having there (sic) eyes scratched out and for my children to not be at risk from an obviously nasty cat. Other cats come in and are no bother. Owners should take responsibility.”
