Interested in a car that’s eligible for the electric car grant? Here are our five best picks.
The government’s £1.3bn EV grant offers up to £3,750 off a qualifying new electric car. With 59 models now eligible for the grant, it can be difficult to sift through the options and find the best all-rounders.
But fear not, we’re here to help. Here are our five top picks of models eligible for the electric car grant, helping you make the most of the savings available when buying an EV.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used electric car right here on Carwow.
1. Citroen e-C5 Aircross Long Range

First up is the Citroen e-C5 Aircross. This electric SUV has more than 400 miles of range, plenty of tech on board, and a comfortable, spacious interior. However, it’s rather boring to drive, while the infotainment system can be unintuitive.
The Long Range trims, which offer more than 420 miles of range, are the only versions eligible for the full £3,750 government grant. This means that if you opt for the entry-level You Long Range, you’ll pay £32,955 after the grant has been applied.
2. Ford Puma Gen-E

Our next pick is the all-electric version of the UK’s best-selling car, and it’s a great-looking small SUV with loads of standard equipment. It’s just a shame that its range isn’t particularly impressive, at up to 259 miles, while efficiency drops off sharply on the motorway.
The Ford Puma Gen-E was the first electric car to meet all the criteria for the full £3,750 grant. With the EV grant applied, the Puma Gen-E costs from £26,245.
3. Nissan Leaf

The Nissan Leaf is a great electric car that’s comfortable to drive, has a handsome interior and offers an impressive range of up to 386 miles. It’s just a shame that it’s unexciting on twisty roads, the rear seats are a little tight, and some alternatives have bigger boots.
The Leaf qualifies for the full £3,750 government grant because it’s built right here in the UK at Nissan’s Sunderland plant. Prices start from £28,849 with the government grant applied.
4. Renault 5 E-Tech

We’d also highly recommend the Renault 5. It’s one of our favourite electric cars at the moment, so much so that we gave it the Urban Living Award at the Carwow Car of the Year Awards 2026. This retro-inspired hatchback looks fantastic, has a lovely interior and is great to drive. Its main downfall is that it’s rather cramped inside, and it only gives you up to 250 miles of range.
It’s also really affordable, with prices starting from under £23,000. The EV grant will knock a further £3,750 off this figure if you opt for one of the new ‘+’ versions fitted with a 52kWh battery.
5. Skoda Elroq

Finally, there’s the Skoda Elroq. This model is only eligible for the £1,500 grant, but it’s certainly worth considering. It’s an excellent family SUV, and it was highly commended in the Family Values category at our Carwow Car of the Year Awards. It’s practical, well-built and well-equipped, although there’s nothing about it that will get your pulse racing.
Prices start from £33,970, which drops to £32,470 with the grant applied. You can also currently save more than £6,900 on a new Elroq through Carwow.
