MDL Marinas’ Ocean Village Marina has welcomed the largest superyacht in its history, with the spectacular 73-metre motor yacht Lunasea arriving in Southampton.
The arrival sets a new record for Ocean Village and demonstrates the marina’s capability to welcome some of the world’s largest visiting yachts.
Lunasea arrived on the South Coast following a cruise in Scotland and passage from Norway and will make Ocean Village her short-term home ahead of the next stage of her programme, including a winter refit.
With a beam of 11.4 metres, a maximum draught of 3.65 metres and a crew of 28, Lunasea’s arrival further reflects Ocean Village’s growing reputation as a destination for visiting superyachts.
The visit also has a strong local connection. Lunasea’s captain, Matthew Ledingham, began his maritime career working on the Hythe Ferry before progressing into the international superyacht industry, making his return to Southampton something of a homecoming to the Solent.
During their stay, Lunasea’s crew will be able to enjoy Ocean Village’s waterfront, with the 5-star Harbour Hotel Southampton and a choice of restaurants and bars, including The Jetty, HarBAR on 6th and Banana Wharf, all within easy reach.
Lauren Bright, Marina Manager at Ocean Village, comments: “Welcoming Lunasea, the largest yacht ever to visit Ocean Village, is a fantastic milestone for the marina and a real demonstration of the scale of yacht we can accommodate.
“It makes the visit particularly special to be welcoming a captain with such strong local roots, and we’re delighted to welcome Matthew and the crew back to Southampton. We look forward to making Ocean Village their home during their stay.”
The historic arrival follows further recognition for Ocean Village Marina, which was named Marina of the Year at the British Yachting Awards in both 2023 and 2025.
Situated in the heart of Southampton and close to the Solent, Ocean Village combines dedicated superyacht berthing and marina facilities with a vibrant waterfront destination, giving visiting owners and crew convenient access to hotels, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities.
The UK’s first and only 5-star marina, Ocean Village can accommodate superyachts up to 80 metres, with depths of up to 4 metres, 24/7 security and fully serviced pontoons providing fresh water and three-phase electricity. This capability follows a £2.2 million investment in upgraded pontoons, smart electric technology and shoreside infrastructure.
Lunasea is expected to remain at Ocean Village for approximately one month.
