Between mowing the lawn and watering plants, the to-do list when it comes to keeping on top of gardening jobs over the summer never ends – so now might be the perfect time to invest in a gadget that makes things a little easier.
Deals website Wowcher is currently running a host of special offers on outdoor must-haves, from garden furniture to storage and tools – and one deal in particular that has caught the eye of shoppers recently is on an Electric Weed Sweeper. This nifty appliance is equipped with a 10-metre power cord, a powerful motor and interchangeable nylon and metal brushes, designed to tackle weeds, moss and dirt with ease.
Priced at £39.99 on the Wowcher website, making it £15 cheaper than on Amazon, the sweeper is ideal for use between paving slabs or along the edges of your patio or driveway, for a chemical-free approach to keeping the paved areas of your garden looking neat and tidy. Even better, the long handle saves you from having to get down on your hands and knees to dig out weeds or scrub moss away, making light work of what can be a time-consuming task in the summer months.
The cordless option was out of stock on Wowcher at the time of writing, but is available on Amazon for £67.99, and spare brushes are also available to buy from the online retail giant at £14.99 for one nylon brush and one steel brush. While Wowcher doesn’t feature reviews for the Garden Gear gadget, over on Amazon the same product has a respectable average rating of 4.2 out of five stars based on nearly 600 reviews from shoppers.
One person advised: “It works a treat at trimming weeds at the surface, but it does not pull them out. My approach is to then spray with weed killer to keep any roots at bay. Will see how that works. But it is certainly a lot less labour intensive than days on my knees working a large block paving drive.”
Others echoed this advice, with another reviewer writing: “I put in some ground work by spraying the whole driveway with weed killer two weeks before starting, so that all the grass and weeds between the bricks were brown and dead and were easily removed by the weeder. I would strongly recommend this course of action as it makes the removal much quicker and the metal wheel blasts through the moss and dead weeds like a hot knife through butter. Much less strain on my back and I am extremely pleased with the result.”
A third shopper fed back: “The wire brush is superb but the nylon brush is largely a waste of time unless you have soft paving. Other than that, perfect – it cleared my drive of a year’s worth of moss and weeds in a couple of hours – would have previously taken days.”
Other fans of the gadget praised it as “excellent” and a “brilliant bit of kit”, saying it “saves so much time” compared to using a manual brush. However, not everyone was impressed, with a small number of shoppers complaining that it felt too “flimsy” and “cheap” – although it’s worth noting that it is considerably cheaper than Amazon’s number one bestselling weed sweeper, the Ryobi Patio Cleaner, which has a slightly higher rating of 4.3 out of five stars and more customer reviews but has a price tag of £109.95.
