August was always my least favorite month growing up because it meant that the summer was practically over. While it’s still sad to see another come and go as an adult, I’ve come to realize that there’s still plenty of warm-weather fun to be had in August. Now, I’m enjoying it in Los Angeles, where I’ve lived for three years, and I’ve recruited the help of plenty of cooling products to help me beat the heat (which doesn’t hold a candle to the East Coast, in my opinion).

As I’m writing this, the Weather App on my phone says that it’s 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and looking ahead, I’m seeing the numbers get bigger and bigger as the week goes on. Luckily, I also have my trusty portable fan set up on my desk and I’m wearing a lightweight matching linen set. But, these are far from the only items I rely on during this time of year. Whether you’re trying to upgrade your home setup or need to add some cooling products to your travel gear repertoire, I’ve gathered up the 14 best accessories, clothing items, and more to help you make it through the rest of the summer.

Otlonpe Portable Rechargeable Fan

Amazon

This never leaves my weekender bag. I’m a hot sleeper, and I haven’t had difficulty sleeping in toasty Airbnbs, hotels, or friends’ houses since I started bringing this portable fan with me everywhere. It’s easy to set up on a bedside table for instant cooling and its 23-hour battery life ensures that it will run all night long.

TheraICE Cooling Gel Sleep Mask

Amazon

It may seem unconventional, but I always have a cloth eye mask in my freezer. What first started as a hack for migraines quickly became my go-to trick for fast cool-downs when temperatures get too high. Outside of its cooling abilities, the eye mask’s weighted design alleviates pressure and offers 3D light-blocking so you can get a good night’s sleep, whether you wear it chilled or as is.

AllSett Cooling Towel With Ice Pack Inserts

Amazon

Stick this neck towel in the cooler before your next summer hike and it will feel like you brought the air conditioning with you to the trail. It comes with two ice packs that slide into the sides of the towel and its Velcro strap ensures that it won’t slip off when you’re on the move. It’s also great for relieving neck pain.

BuiltCool Adult Cooling Baseball Hat

Amazon

A sun hat is a no-brainer in the summer, but not every style is built for on-the-go cooling comfort — well, that was before the BuiltCool Baseball Hat. It boasts a unique fabric weave that absorbs water and a hollow core construction that quickly distributes it around the crown of the hat for instant relief. It works just like a neck gaiter; just wet the hat with cold water, wring it out, and enjoy.

NatraCure Cold Therapy Socks

Amazon

I first discovered these cold therapy socks when I needed relief from a plantar fasciitis flare-up, but I didn’t want to be tied down by an ice pack. Now, I wear them when I’m on the couch and need to cool down on a hot Los Angeles day. They’re also great for sore feet after a day of walking, running, or hiking.

Esarora Ice Roller for Face

Amazon

If you run hot like I do, then an ice roller is far from a beauty fad. I like to use mine when I have a sunburn or feel like I’m overheating in my tiny apartment; it feels so good to swipe it along my temples or even behind my neck. It also comes in handy when I want to wake up tired, puffy under-eyes before a big event.

Aerie Hot Shot High-rise Shorts

aerie

You know a pair of shorts is good when they spark impromptu laundry days so you can wear them again sooner. The lightweight material softly drapes against the skin to keep things breezy while the built-in liner ensures ample coverage. I’m a big fan of the high-rise waistband, which is unexpectedly stretchy while providing the slightest bit of compression — that, and the pockets!

The Gym People Workout Top

Amazon

Trust me. This is one piece of clothing that you’re going to be adding to your cart in multiple colors. It’s a comfy hybrid between a workout top and a sports bra with its built-in shelf bra, supportive straps, and trendy V-neck. Its moisture-wicking fabric is ideal for any summer activity and even doubles as a casual top with the right bottoms and accessories. Heck, you can even use it as a swim top if needed!

Zeagoo Linen Two-piece Set

Amazon

Say hello to your new end-of-summer uniform. This linen two-piece set keeps you cool, comfy, and surprisingly chic with its short-sleeve button-down shirt and flowy, high-rise shorts. I love to wear it while I’m lounging around the house or when I’m out running errands, and it’s been coming in clutch as a swim cover-up and spare pajama set.

Abercrombie YPB sculptLUX Lined Wrap Skirt

Abercrombie & Fitch

When the itinerary calls for something dressy but you don’t want to be stuck in anything tight with no airflow, reach for something stretchy and moisture-wicking like this Abercrombie skort. It offers enough structure to help you look put-together, but its breathable, spandex construction ensures you’re comfortable all day in the heat.

Athleta Brooklyn Heights High-rise Cargo Joggers

Athleta

If shorts and skirts aren’t your thing, allow me to introduce you to the Athleta Brooklyn Heights High-rise Cargo Joggers. These have been a game-changer for me on long, hot travel days and outings with their light-as-air feel and relaxed silhouette. They’re like the summer version of your favorite sweatpants, but they’re cute enough to wear out and about.

Purple Harmony Pillow

Purple

Hot sleepers, listen up: A few tiny tweaks to your bedding can make a world of difference in the summertime — starting with your pillow. I’ve been using the Purple Harmony Pillow for months, and it not only alleviated my side sleeping-induced neck pain, but it also eliminated the dreaded search for the “cold side” of the pillow each night — because it never gets warm.

It’s all thanks to Purple’s innovative and signature Honeycomb GelFlex Grid design, which keeps things cool, the airy and bouncy Talalay Latex, and the moisture-wicking stretch-knit cover that promotes airflow. I’ve been saving up so I can replace all of my pillows with the Harmony Pillow, and right now, you can get one for 10 percent off.

Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set

Cozy Earth

Speaking of bedding, your sheets are often the sneaky culprits behind your uncomfortable nights. That’s why I switched to the Oprah-loved Cozy Earth’s Bamboo Sheets, which are currently 20 percent off. They’re made with premium viscose from bamboo, which is behind their unmatched softness and cooling properties, and offer a gentle drape that feels lightweight on the skin.

Luxome Lightweight Blanket

Luxome

I hate making my bed, so you can imagine how dire the situation was when I willingly swapped out my duvet for this Luxome blanket. At first glance, it’s much thinner than a traditional comforter, but it still provides enough warmth to take your current bedding’s place (note: Its lightweight nature makes it easy to fold up and take with you). The naturally thermal-regulating bamboo viscose fabric and fill was made with hot sleepers in mind and it always stays cool to the touch, even when you’re tossing and turning.
