Montreal’s Weeve launches Avigo to expand EV car-sharing model

by R.Donald

Weeve has launched Avigo, a new electric car-sharing platform aimed at reshaping how vehicles are accessed in urban environments, the company announced March 25.

The Montreal-based company said Avigo is designed to integrate directly into residential and office buildings, positioning car-sharing as a built-in amenity rather than a standalone service. Its model is targeting a potential shift from ownership to access, particularly in dense urban markets.

In residential towers, the platform allows developers to offer tenants immediate access to shared electric vehicles, while in office settings it enables companies to share vehicles across teams to manage business mobility needs.

“We are changing the way people access cars. With Avigo, we are moving from an ownership model to a usage model integrated directly where people live and work,” said Mathieu Courtat and David Blondot, Co-founders and, respectively, CEO of Weeve and Avigo, in a statement.

At launch, Avigo includes more than 70 vehicles already deployed, with more than 200 additional units planned over the next 18 months, supported by demand from real estate and corporate clients. The company said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand electric mobility across Canada and accelerate the electrification of professional transportation, including fleet and mobility platform use cases.

“Tomorrow, not having a personal car will no longer be a constraint, it will be an advantage. Avigo makes this transition simple, immediate and obvious,” said Courtat and Blondot.

The platform relies on keyless access technology and a fully digital booking system to enable immediate vehicle use, supporting scalable deployment across multiple urban locations. The move may be seen as shifting consumers away from vehicle ownership, while increasing consumer experience with EVs — which could in turn generate greater interest in EV purchases across Canada.
