It’s beyond a trend at this point. Couples are more and more frequently choosing to marry in the most intimate way possible, with only the celebrant as witness. While many newlyweds are jetting off to faraway lands and remote locations, Sally Greagen is bringing the magic closer to home with her new elopement venue, The Loft on Hindley.

With two young boys, ages 8 and 4, Sally ditched her nine-to-five, taking up photography as her new pilgrimage. After renting spaces out in the suburbs, it quickly became apparent that most customers aren’t willing to travel. Her solution? Bring the studio to the most central location she could, Hindley Street. But the moment she and her husband Sonny saw the space, it was clear it was destined for more than just a backdrop, and that’s when the idea of an elopement venue was born. “The moment I walked in, it just had that wedding feel. I thought, if I’ve got the venue and I’m the photographer, why not create a full package for couples?”
Sure, your first thought, with the strip of lively bars and restaurantss, might be a Vegas-style wedding, but the vision is focused, and it makes perfect sense. “Come in for your elopement at 11am, sign on the dotted line, have your photos taken in a stunning, proper wedding space, and then head down the street for lunch or dinner,” Sally explains. “Everything’s right there, no fuss, no logistics.”

The venue itself offers a beautiful brick backdrop, with natural light brimming through the second story windows. It was a private residence back in the day, and more recently, became home to contemporary art space, Household before Sally took over.
The idea for The Loft is personal for Sally and Sonny. “[We eloped] at our celebrant’s house,” Sally tells us, “but I still wanted beautiful photos that looked like a real, official wedding. So we went to Seppeltsfield for proper photos to make it feel like a proper wedding. Then we announced, ‘Hey everyone, we’re married and expecting a baby.’ Bringing it back to The Loft, I wanted to give couples who are on a budget a beautiful day they’ll remember forever, with photos they’ll want to frame, all at a realistic price.”

And while it’s touted for elopements, Sally tells us the space could easily host up to 60 people for a stand-up canapé-style microwedding.
Bookings are now open, and while a full website launch is still on the horizon, couples can reserve their spot via email ([email protected]) or via Instagram DMs. A small launch party for friends, family, and local vendors is expected in mid-April, for a first look at the venue’s charming potential.

Sally’s goal is simple: to give couples a beautiful, memorable day without the stress, endless add-ons, or hidden costs often associated with weddings. “I want people to see The Loft and instantly recognise it, and for it to feel like the perfect place to start a marriage,” she says.
