9 Petite Wedding Guest Dresses for Every Dress Code

by R.Donald

As I enter my late 20s, weddings are becoming much more of a frequent occurrence than an once-in-a-blue-moon event—I’m talking about multiple nuptials a season. On one hand, as someone who loves to get dressed up, I’m not mad about it, but on the other, shopping for a formal dress that doesn’t require tailoring when you’re 5-feet-tall is a constant challenge.

I know I’m not the only one struggling with this, so I decided to do a bit of investigating to uncover the best petite wedding guest dresses for every dress code, from dressy casual to black tie and everything in between. I scoured my go-to spots for petite options, including Reformation and Abercrombie and Fitch, as well as some lesser-known brands that offer a range of sizes, like Never Fully Dressed and ASOS. Keep scrolling for all the styles I’m eyeing for my upcoming spring and summer weddings.

Florals for spring can actually be groundbreaking when it comes to wedding attire, and this ASTR the Label proves it. The playful ruffles and ribbon straps give the dress a coquette feel without looking too youthful, and the bright pink floral pattern is sure to turn heads in the best way possible.

Reformation has been my go-to spot for occasionwear, dating back to my high school prom. (It’s one of the few looks I don’t cringe over when I look at old pictures). While the brand’s dresses are a bit of a splurge, I’ve found that the high-quality material stands the test of time, and its petite selection is unmatched, especially for Black tie weddings. This gown’s bold print, elegant cowl neckline, and unique back-tassel detail make it fitting for a formal summer wedding.

Significant Other Idette Petite Linen Blend Dress

This strapless, above-the-ankle dress from Significant Other is sophisticated enough for a cocktail dress code, but the linen-blend material makes it ideal for a warm summer wedding. The cornflower-blue color, combined with subtle floral stitching at the top, makes it a timeless choice that I could definitely see myself wearing for multiple occasions.

Five dresses for the price of one? Say no more. This convertible maxidress from Abercrombie, available in petite sizing, can be transformed into five ultra-flattering styles, including strapless, halter, short-sleeve, and one-shoulder thanks to its adjustable tie straps. Plus, the stretchy mesh fabric makes it a comfortable choice that can seamlessly be dressed up or down.

This simple, yet elevated option from Abercrombie is a classic choice for any semi-formal wedding. It features an open-back with hardware detailing that adds a bit of shine to the understated style, and it’s available in both solid shades and fun, tropical-inspired florals that are perfect for a destination wedding.

Andie Anderson, who? This elegant, butter-yellow petite gown oozes all of the elegance of Kate Hudson’s iconic dress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days but with tie straps and a halter neckline for a modern twist. I’d style it with sparkly jewelry and a statement clutch for an effortlessly chic formal spring wedding outfit.

This Never Fully Dressed option has been pinned to my Pinterest board for quite a while, and I think this is the year I finally add it to cart for a summer wedding.. The colorful, unique pattern features tiny flecks of gold that will shimmer in the sunlight, especially when paired with gold jewelry and coordinating heels.

Vesper Petite bengaline sleeveless square neck fishtail midi dress in black

I’ll be honest: I usually steer clear of ultra tight-fitting, bodycon dresses, but this fishtail mididress immediately caught my attention. While I’d usually be hesitant to try the style, the unfussy, sleek design and flattering square neckline is specifically designed for petite proportions, so now this is first on my list to try for one of my upcoming weddings. At the end of the day, who couldn’t use another little black dress in their closet?

I’m loving the mermaidcore aesthetic for summer, and this sweet, stylish boatneck dress from Anthropologie embraces the oceanic style in a wearable, elegant way. Plus, the drop-waist silhouette elongates petite frames, so it’s an uncontested winner in my book.
