Zeelander 8 Yacht Landing in USA in 2027

by R.Donald

The Zeelander 8 yacht series draws heavily on New England lobster-boat looks, as well as the early-20th-century commuters that plied the waters from Long Island to Wall Street in New York City. It’s fitting, then, that the first Zeelander 8 yacht for American customers will call the East Coast home next year.

Introduced in 2024 as the flagship of the Zeelander range, this 78-footer (23.9-meter) maintains the profile of her smaller dayboat sisters. That profile is from Cor D. Rover, who appreciated the rich heritage behind lobster boats and commuter yachts. (On a related note, both Rover and Zeelander are in The Netherlands.) Although serving dramatically different purposes, each of those vessel categories has time-honored style. Additionally, their styling cues continue to appear in many modern leisure craft.

They continue to find strong appeal among American yacht buyers, too. According to Sietse Koopmans, the chairman of Zeelander Yachts, at least one of every model will now be in U.S. waters. “The East Coast of the United States has always been a natural home for Zeelander,” he notes. Specifically, the owners taking delivery of the first American-based Zeelander 8 yacht plan to cruise in Nantucket during the summer. Come the winter, they’ll move the yacht down to Palm Beach, Florida.

A limited-edition model, the 78-footer is semi-custom as well. The family-owned shipyard gives clients wide leeway in selecting décor materials and choosing the layout. “We can customize anything you can touch, except for the shape of the vessel,” Koopmans says. In fact, he continues, “Every Zeelander 8 made so far has had complete different layouts.”

Capable of accommodating up to six people in three staterooms, the yacht suits both quick hops and long-range cruising. Her two Volvo Penta IPS packages pledge top speeds approaching 40 knots, for instance. Paired with a 5-foot (1.6-meter) draft, that means abundant exploring of shallow bays, perhaps even Bahamas trips. Considering the reported 32-knot cruising speed still delivers a range close to 630 nautical miles, the owners will be able to cover a lot of ground. Range extends to an impressive 2,700 nautical miles at 7 knots as well, lending itself well to the repositioning trips each season.

From her unfolding beach platform—extending LOA to 84 feet (25.6 meters)—to her cockpit, the Zeelander 8 yacht strives to deliver large-yacht luxuries in a more personal package.
