Apple has reportedly stop producing FineWoven accessories

A leaker said that Apple has stopped production of its FineWoven accessories. The leaker, which goes by the name of Kosutami on X, previously shared accurate information about Apple’s FineWoven accessories.

In case you’ve forgotten, FineWoven is a new material that Apple introduced last September during the launch of the iPhone 15 series, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch Series 9.

It was described by the company as an environmentally friendly, luxurious, and durable alternative to leather. However, it was poorly received by reviewers and customers, who panned it for its poor durability and high price.

Kosutami doesn’t say much else, but this rumour does make sense seeing that Apple didn’t update the lineup with new colours.

Having used a FineWoven case for about two months, I’d say that it certainly doesn’t feel as nice to the touch as leather. That said, it held up well enough in regular use, which leads me to think that reports of its poor durability were perhaps exaggerated. Even so, I’ll concede that it’s priced much too high. A FineWoven iPhone case is nearly S$90 – what?!

Some reports say Apple is considering using Alcantara as a replacement. Like FineWoven, Alcantara is a suede-like synthetic material. However, Alcantara’s durability is well-proven in automotive circles, so it could end up being a better alternative.
