Apple has reportedly ceased the production of its FineWoven iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands. Announced alongside the iPhone 15 series in September 2023, Apple replaced its leather cases with the new FineWoven material.
However, users have criticized the new material for its poor durability and in-hand feel, which is especially evident after a few weeks of use.
FineWoven replaced leather in Apple’s accessories lineup
Apple announced FineWoven as a leather replacement to make its products more eco-friendly. At launch, the company highlighted FineWoven’s “durable microtwill” material and “suedelike” feel. Apple claims FineWoven is made from 68% post-consumer recycled material and has significantly lower carbon emissions than leather.
Following the introduction of FineWoven, the company stopped selling leather accessories altogether.
Apple has not officially announced the discontinuation of its FineWoven lineup of iPhone cases. But according to leaker Kosutami, Apple has discontinued its production altogether. You can still buy a case or Apple Watch band of the material directly from the company’s online store, but likely only until stocks last.
FineWoven has gone.
Since its durability were bad.
All the production line was stopped and removed.
Apple would move to another material—Again, not the leather. So see ya’ll in leather hell.

The company seemingly plans to move to a different material, not leather, in the future. Presumably, Apple will announce the replacement material alongside the launch of the iPhone 16 later this year.
Apple’s leather replacement material has met with criticism
In the weeks and months following the FineWoven cover’s availability, there has been an influx of user complaints about its poor durability and sub-par quality. Complaints have centered around the material peeling off from the edges and the fabric showing scratches like an old CD.
This could have been a key factor behind Apple discontinuing the production of its FineWoven accessories.
This news should not bother you much if you own a FineWoven iPhone 15 case or Apple Watch band. If you are unhappy with its quality, try contacting Apple for a replacement. And if you have been looking to buy one for a while, you should see some good deals on third-party retailers in the coming weeks.
