An Ayrshire business owner has told how she was “crying with happiness” after winning two accolades at the People’s Choice Awards 2025.

Natalie Nicol’s beauty business ‘Nasty Beauty’ won in ‘Best Family Business’ and ‘Best Health and Well-being Business’ categories.

The Awards took place at the Double Tree by Hilton in Glasgow and hailed the hard-working Scottish businesses who continue to excel in the trade.

Natalie, 29, said: “I was not expecting to get anything at all I was just so happy to even be a finalist in a large group of amazing businesses.

“First up was ‘Best Family Business’ and when they announced that Nasty Beauty had won that category I was so shocked but crying with happiness, our table erupted with how loud my family and friends were cheering for me and that will forever be a massive memory for me.

“Next was ‘Best Health and Well-being Business’ and again I was so happy I had just got an award, that for me at that point was my highlight of the night.

“Nasty Beauty won that category too and I honestly couldn’t cope with how overwhelming it all was for me, that was then the most amazing outcome for my business and the highlight of the night!

“These are my first awards and to manage to get two in one night, I am really proud of myself but most importantly I am extremely grateful for my amazing clients that make my business boom and for everyone who took the time to vote for me. I will never ever forget it!

“I am still on cloud nine about it all and such a lucky girl to have always had such amazing support around me, I never take that for granted.”

Natalie has been working in the beauty industry for almost 10 years now. Her first job was at The Hair & Beauty Lounge in Crosshouse as a nail technician after she qualified from college.

She said: “I first started out working for my cousin at The Hair & Beauty Lounge. I grew more and more confident in my work which then led me to taking the big leap into starting out on my own and that’s when Nasty Beauty was born.

“I have been self-employed for over five years now and I absolutely love it! I decided to take this step not only for myself but for my family, it’s really important to believe in yourself as you are capable of great things when you believe.

“This has always been a dream of mine and I hope my children will look back on this one day and be proud of their mummy for taking a risk and actually doing well in her own business and enjoying every bit of it.”

Natalie is working on her own in her busy salon in Crosshouse, where she provides a range of different treatments from nail treatments to brows, lash tinting and facial waxing.

Natalie said: “The girls I work alongside are amazing and my clients I can’t thank enough for sticking with me and being so loyal over the years.

“The relationship I have with my clients is second to none and I have made many new close friendships through my work, the happiness I get out of making people feel happy, relaxed and recharged is why I do what I do.”
