The Compact Foundation with SPF comes in 10 different shades and, as a compact, is easy to pop in a handbag for simple touch ups in the day
With the summer holidays in touching distance and a heatwave still scorching parts of the country, applying SPF is vital – but can sometimes make wearing make-up difficult, or in some instances, impossible. But shoppers have been left ‘blown away’ by a foundation that allows full coverage in the sun, without risking any damage, as it’s got SPF 30 in it.
Better still, the SPF 30 foundation, which has been described as ‘luxurious’ by shoppers, is currently on sale – but not for long. Shiseido has just launched a last minute 25% off sale just in time for the weekend, with many of its sun protection costing less than £30. But it’s only running until the end of July 6, so holiday makers in need of a sunscreen top up for less need to act fast.
From lotions to creams to sticks to sports SPF foundation and invisible mist, the brand is helping sun-worshippers stock up on sun protection ahead of time to beat the holiday rush – including 4.9 star Expert Sun Protector Cream SPF30, which has been reduced on sale.

UV Protective Compact Foundation SPF30 and Sports BB SPF50+ cream
The Compact Foundation with SPF comes in 10 different shades and, as a compact, is easy to pop in a handbag for simple touch ups in the day. With a ‘silky touch’ and ‘matte finish’, the brand explains that the foundation delivers ‘natural coverage of uneven skin tone, visible pores and fine lines’ but even better it ‘protects the skin from damage caused by external aggressors such as UV rays, fine urban dust and dryness.”
One innovative claim too is that the product ‘resists to perspiration and sebum’ – which is always a risk when the sun is shining. The foundation comes in a compact with a sponge applicator.
While some beauty fans ‘could not recommend this product enough’ stating: “Wonderful spf30. It is a luxurious powder as well as protector from harmful rays”, one person had some complaints regarding the variation of shades.
“Whilst the coverage is very good, the choice of colours are disappointing, I tried the medium beige and it was too dark, so will try the medium ivory.” They called for a wider range of shades to be added.
Although this particular product is relatively unique in the beauty industry, there are some alternatives that do the job and offer a wide range of shades – for example the Max Factor Miracle Touch Foundation SPF30 with Hyaluronic Acid is £15.99 and comes with 14 different colours. Meanwhile, the HELIOCARE 360° Oil-Free Compact SPF50+, £28.99, offers strong protection as well as coverage but only comes in one shade – beige.
Meanwhile the Sports BB SPF50+ cream comes in five different shades and is a BB-type fluid that offers sun protection and light coverage and smoothing during sports and other outdoor activites. The cream is made with quick dry technology and leaves its wearers without a ‘touch of pink’ after being in the sun, as one Shiseido fan recalled. They said: “Very natural, enhances the complexion, protects from the sun and stays put however hot you get. I have used it when swimming, doing zumba and on hot and humid days – perfection. My nose easily burns and with a history of non malignant skin cancer I am super cautious- this totally prevents burning, not even a touch of pink.”
“Stays on all day, great even finish and spf 50! Make up sticks to it great as well but make sure it has dried before you apply rouge,” said another.
One gripe that one particular shopper shared, however, that because of its durability it’s rather tough to remove. They said: “The colour medium has a very yellow undertone, which doesn’t match my skin tone. The product is very hard to remove even using water proof remover. It looks like a mask on my face.”
That being said, some people have even ditched their usual foundations and sunscreens in favour of this BB sport’s cream with one person raving: “I wear this daily all year round to protect my skin from the sun. Less faff than using a sun cream under my foundation, it doesn’t clog my pores, gives great coverage and stays put. I touch up during the day with the SPF30 face powder. You can never have too much sun protection on your face!”
Urban Environment Age Defense Oil-Free SPF30
Now, when it comes to having oily skin, adding a sunscreen into the skincare routine isn’t always helpful for a sheen-free finish. But shoppers are loving that Shiseido’s Urban Environment Age Defense Oil-Free SPF30 gives just that thanks to its Anti-Sebum Damage Complex – all whilst delivering the dual benefits of sun-activated skin enrichment and protection against UV rays and daily city aggressors (pollution, dust, etc.).
Costing £27.75 in the sale (from £37) one person raved: “It’s the only one I found so far it’s keep my oily skin shine free all day long. Lightweight but sometimes I feel like it’s drying a bit so good to put some hyaluronic serum before using it.” Their only annoyance was the bottle’s size. “Otherwise good apart of the price for such a tiny bottle said that it will last you a month with once daily use.”
That being said, it is declared as a ‘travel friendly size’, ideal for taking everywhere.
While others loved the oil-free formula, some found it left a bit too much residue when applying it. One three star reviewer said: “This age defence oil-free spf 30 from Shiseido is not special for me unfortunately. It`s oil-free and very easy to use, and it keeps my skin pretty matte. But it leaves a white cast on my skin. I don`t like that, so I wont buy this again, and will look for another daily spf.”
Although someone else did note: “A must have in my skincare routine. I use this everyday after moisturiser, it makes my skin feel so nice. I have rosacea and this really agrees with my skin.”
Elsewhere in the sale, those who want to merge their suncare with their make-up can benefit from the brand’s reductions on the Sports BB SPF50+ cream, now £28.50 (from £38) and its UV Protective Compact Foundation SPF30 also £28.50.
Expert Sun Protector Cream SPF30
The UV protection cream is crafted with a protective veil that is impressively ‘strengthened by heat and water, and re-smooths on its own. It protects the inner and outer skin layers against UVA and UVB’.
Combining skincare with suncare, the cream is also packed with nourishing ingredients which works hard to hydrate skin as well as plump, smooth and ‘beautify’, thanks to its inclusion of the likes of safflower extract and Hyaluronic Acid, Algae Complex, NatureSurge Complex, Seaweed Complex and Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate.

Shiseido has launched a 25% off sale on its new suncare range, which finishes on July 6
Shoppers love that the cream isn’t greasy – unlike many others on the market – and has a lightweight texture, which makes it a dream to apply on the beach. It also ‘smells amazing’, which for many people is a big bonus, as opposed to typical suncreams’ rather chemical smell.
The Expert Sun Protector Cream also comes in SPF50 as well as SPF30 and costs the same amount at £27.75. Shiseido also claims that the cream is relatively invisible and absorbs rapidly, leaving no trail of a white cast behind.
Another firm favourite amongst beauty fans that doesn’t leave such residue behind is the La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMUNE 400 Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid SPF30, which is currently on sale at Boots for £16.40. Great for those with sensitive skin, the formula has MEXORYL400 and provides ‘the most efficient UV filter against the most penetrative UV rays’. It also absorbs rapidly and doesn’t leave the classic stickiness of suncream.
Sun Protection On The Go and the Expert Sun Protector Clear Stick SPF50+
For those wanting to stock up on a number of holiday essentials, the brand has also reduced the cost of its Sun Protection On The Go package, which now retails on the website for £25.60 from £32.
Included in the haul is a travel sized Expert Sun Protector Clear Stick SPF50+ 20g, Expert Sun Protector Face Cream SPF50+ 5 ml and After Sun Intensive Recovery Emulsion 30 ml.
The clear stick is a keen favourite amongst some shoppers. Reduced on its own in the sale – costing £24 instead of £32, which makes the haul incredible bang for its buck as shoppers will get three for the price of one, essentially – the product is a transparent on-the-go UV protection stick that is a mess-free way to apply sunscreen and provides powerful and convenient protection with its SPF50+.
Crafted with advanced SynchroShield technology, its also features a protective veil that is strengthened by heat, water and sweat. Its ‘SuperVeil-UV 360™ creates a seamless defence against sun rays, micro dust, and dryness’ too while the formula is ‘very water resistant’ to help minimise the impact to the ocean and boost protection whilst swimming.
If £24 is a little steep, the Soltan Active 8 Hour Protect Suncare Stick SPF50+ is at Boots for £7 and is both water and sweat resistant and delivers 8-hour protection from very high UVB rays.
