It may be hard to believe that a woman in her 30s has better skin than she did 10 years ago, but this is certainly the case for one beauty influencer whose skin transformation has gone viral online.
Bambi, who is based in the U.K., recently shared her five-step skincare routine that has worked wonders. Using the handle @bambidoesbeauty, she has racked up 5.4 million views since February, 16.
The Instagram clip starts with a selfie from her archives, the text layered over it says: “20-year-old me: “Did we ever get rid of those wrinkles?” followed by a recent image of her bare face. The text says: “33-year-old me: ‘Yes we did, and we didn’t use Botox to do it.'”
The caption reads: “Things I did to age my skin backwards,” followed by the bullet points below highlighting her regime that involves double cleansing, applying hydration mist, using retinol (also called vitamin A and it’s a fat-soluble vitamin), layering hydrating serums and wearing sunscreen daily.
Newsweek discussed the video which has over 56,360 likes with Jess Sedgwick, a lead facialist and aesthetician.
Sedgwick said: “It is important to approach claims of ‘reversed aging’ with caution and a critical eye. While it’s entirely possible for someone to significantly improve the appearance of their skin through diligent care, the notion of reversing aging at a cellular level is misleading.”
“The regimen described—cleansing, using hydrating serums, and applying sunscreen daily—can indeed have profound effects on the skin’s appearance,” told Sedgwick, who works for Montrose London, a U.K.-based clinic that specializes in dermatology and aesthetics.
“Proper cleansing can prevent pore clogging and skin irritation, hydrating serums can boost the skin’s moisture content and improve its barrier function, and sunscreen is critical in protecting the skin from UV-induced damage, which is a major factor in premature aging.”
Sedgwick explained that skin texture, hydration, and overall appearance can make someone look younger, but this is more about the improvement of the existing skin. As opposed to reversing the biological process of aging itself.
“It’s also worth noting that individual results can vary widely based on genetics, the specific products used, and other factors like diet and lifestyle,” Sedgwick said.
“While the individual in question may have seen remarkable results, attributing these changes solely to reversing aging might not be scientifically accurate. It’s about enhancing skin health and potentially delaying the visible signs of aging, not fundamentally reversing the aging process.”
Many Instagram users have flocked to the post to shower Bambi with compliments and offer skincare advice.
One user said: “Girl, you’ve changed so much I didn’t even recognize you.”
“It appears you have reversed aging. You look even younger and more beautiful than you did in your 20s,” said another user.
A third comment said: “Most people will probably see big results if they drink water, sleep properly, and cut back on alcohol intake as well! A lot of skin looks ‘dull‘ [because] of dehydration/lack of moisture. love these tips though, currently implementing similar in my routine.”
