The Met Gala always sets the bar high for beauty—and this year, fashion’s biggest night took it even higher. Embracing the 2025 theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” attendees paid homage to the cultural legacy of Black dandyism while interpreting the “Tailored for You” dress code in bold, deeply personal ways.
Across the red carpet, swooped hairstyles echoed the sharp lines and expressive flair of Black dandyism. From Teyana Taylor to Quinta Brunson, countless stars wore face-framing kiss curls, a 1920s beauty signature made famous by Josephine Baker. Further celebrating the beauty and versatility of natural hair, there was Doechii’s buoyant Afro and A$AP Rocky’s cornrowed finger waves.
Evoking the glamour of the Harlem Renaissance, the evening’s standout makeup looks were extraordinary, too. Underneath a wide-brimmed white hat à la Bianca Jagger, Zendaya’s makeup peeked out with bronzed smoky eyes and a two-tone nude lip. Lizzo’s deep plum pout and Lupita Nyong’o’s bejeweled brows were not to be missed either.
