Elected members will be asked to approve awarding a deal for the project to Clarks Contracts.
A contract for the replacement of a cycle hub and toilet facility at Castle Semple Country Park in Lochwinnoch will go before councillors this week.
Elected members will be asked to approve awarding a deal for the project, which includes demolishing the existing rundown block, to Clarks Contracts.
If given the green light at Renfrewshire Council’s finance, resources and customer services policy board on Thursday, work is expected to begin in early September and last roughly three months.
Councillor Andy Doig, an independent representative for the village, said: “As a cyclist I have to say Castle Semple, right off the cycle path network, is a big attraction and very popular, so a new bike hub and changing space there would, if approved, only increase its popularity.
“In particular, with the explosion of e-bike cycling and the welcome growth in women taking up both leisure and competitive cycling, the new hub would be fantastic.”
A report, which will be considered at the meeting, explained the local authority needs to appoint a “suitably qualified contractor” for the project and has identified Clarks Contracts.
The paper said: “This facility is adjacent to the visitor centre. The contractor will be required to demolish the existing facility, as well as handling and securing materials on the existing building to be reused in the new build facility.”
It added the costs for the agreement, worth more than £670,000, will be met through the place based investment programme, shared prosperity fund and rural tourism infrastructure fund.
Councillor Doig continued: “I am delighted that the future direction of travel will be to promote Castle Semple and Clyde Muirshiel, which are key outdoor activity assets for all of the Central Belt, not just the West Coast.
“Once the new toilet block and bike hub are in place, the next project in my sights would be a renewal of the Castle Semple Café. It has served us well for the last 50 or so years but now it really needs to be replaced.
“I will certainly be lobbying the council to secure the necessary funding to build a new café as it is the next logical step in modernising the infrastructure here.”
