Glasgow-based influencer Jamie Genevieve has secured a spot in The Sunday Times’ inaugural list of the top 30 wealthiest hair, beauty and makeup entrepreneurs.

At 31-years-old, Genevieve, who amassed a significant online following through her YouTube makeup tutorials, is now estimated to be worth £15 million, placing her joint 25th on the UK rich list.

Genevieve’s career began at the Estée Lauder counter in Glasgow’s Debenhams, where she started showcasing her makeup artistry on Instagram. In 2020, she launched VIEVE, her own vegan and cruelty-free makeup brand.

She boasts over 1.3 million followers on Instagram and nearly a million subscribers on YouTube.

In 2023, the beauty tycoon announced the arrival of her newborn daughter, Romy Jack McCann, with husband Jack McCann. That same year, she also earned recognition on Forbes magazine’s 30 under 30 list.

Also representing Scotland on the list are Frank Taylor and family, founders of the tanning shop chain Indigo Sun, who topped the beauty rich list in Scotland. With over 100 locations across the UK and a London store opened two years ago, the Stirling-based company owners are estimated to be worth £64 million, reports Glasgow Live.

Leading the UK list is British cosmetics queen Charlotte Tilbury, with an estimated fortune of £350 million. Other notable names include haircare mogul John Frieda, former Apprentice star Susie Ma, Jo Malone and ex-BBC presenter Trinny Woodall.

The Beauty Rich List showcases the collective fortune of 30 trailblazing entrepreneurs, amassing a staggering £2.174 billion. This diverse group is composed of 19 women and 14 men, their ages ranging from Darcy Laceby, a 27 year old co-founder of Absolute Collagen, to Mike Harris, 84 years of age, who established The Belgravia Clinic.

Highlighted in The Sunday Times, these individuals have accumulated wealth through a myriad of beauty products and services, including skincare, hair care, false eyelashes, and tanning shops.

Crafted by the team responsible for The Sunday Times Rich List, Robert Watts, the orchestrator of the list, remarked: “There are so many inspiring people with rags to riches stories here. Our Beauty List includes someone who came to the UK as a child refugee, another who was homeless and camping in woodland during his teens.”

Influencer Jamie Genevieve has more than 1.4million followers on social media and last year earned a spot on Forbes magazine’s 30 under 30 list.

Watts continued, “There are others who left school with few or no qualifications to their name, one who was expelled. We have entries who suffered hair loss and very serious skin conditions that led them to create their own treatments which they later started to sell.”

He concluded by saying, “All these people went on to build successful beauty brands making products people love, creating jobs, contributing decent sums to the public finances and of course making many of us look and feel a lot better along the way.”

Phoebe McDowell, the beauty and interiors director at The Sunday Times, remarked on the significance of the beauty industry while discussing the publication’s first Beauty Rich List.

She said: “Beauty is big business, and this inaugural list demonstrates the power of creativity and innovation in the sector. These entrepreneurs have not only built brands but changed the way we think about hair, makeup, and skincare.”
