The new cosmetics line, named “La Beauté Louis Vuitton, marked the LVMH flagship label’s first foray into beauty in a century, since it offered a range of powder compacts, brushes and mirrors in the 1920s.
Currently, the luxury maison sells a collection of fragrances starting from £255, available exclusively via its own stores and concessions.
McGrath, who launched her own beauty line Pat McGrath Labs in 2015, said: “La Beauté Louis Vuitton (…) is the result of extraordinary craftmanship, creativity and innovation. What we are creating here will unlock a new level in luxury beauty.”
Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton chairman and chief executive, added: “Through this new universe, we have the opportunity to further accompany clients in their everyday lives with purpose and pleasure, while continuing to celebrate our creativity and heritage.”
Louis Vuitton is the latest in a string of luxury houses to enter the beauty space, after brands including Celine, Prada and Dries Van Noten all launched make-up arms in the past five years.
LVMH currently produces a beauty line for Dior and owns beauty retailer Sephora.
