Since The Devil Wears Prada 2 was announced, time has moved at a glacial pace. Now, we’ve got less than a month to go until the long-awaited sequel arrives in cinemas. Two decades on from the seminal 2006 film, fashion’s favourite villan Miranda Priestly is back – and Meryl Streep is giving the fictional editor a run for her money with her press tour looks.
The iconic actor stepped out in New York before an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. In an outfit heavily influenced by the editor in chief of Runway, Streep wore a leopard print coat with striking bow detailing, black slim jeans and black slingback heels – but it’s the bag that grabbed my attention.
The sleek black leather style hails from DeMellier, a London label that has quietly become one of the most powerful names in fashion. Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle both own multiple styles, while Reece Witherspoon, Katie Holmes and Beyonce are all fans, too. The brand is a firm favourite among fashion editors each season, with long waitlists for its most popular styles.
Streep opted for one of the brand’s most popular bags, The Hudson. A signature style for the quiet luxury label, the bag features a top handle, gold hardware and a sleek, spacious leather body. Combining style with functionality, it’s a bag you’ve likely seen all over your Instagram feeds. Just like Priestly, it appears that Streep’s got her finger on the pulse when it comes to buzzy fashion names.
Setting you back £585, it a more affordable choice than Chanel or Louis Vuitton, albeit still an investment piece. If you’re a fan of Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly-inspired look, I’ve found two high street alternatives that will set you back a lot less.
