A businesswoman has been granted permission to open a beauty salon at her Paisley home.

She lodged a planning application with Renfrewshire Council seeking permission for the venture at her home in Brailsford Drive and council planners have granted her request for a part change of use.

A supporting statement on behalf of the applicant, Ms C Ward, read: “The applicant operated a salon full time from a premises at Tylney Road, Paisley, for approximately 20 years, but due to a change in personal circumstances they now have caring responsibilities.

“The applicant now needs to reduce her working hours significantly to a part-time arrangement.

“The part-time working operation, combined with the caring responsibilities, meant that it was no longer viable or appropriate to maintain the business premises which also makes alternative business premises also unsuitable.”

The statement continues: “The applicant wishes to open up a small part-time business from her home after closing down a local well-established business within Paisley.”

The business will be part change of use from residential to a beauty salon, offering clients within the Paisley and surrounding areas a personal one-to-one service.

The owner of the property is the only member of staff and has a small number of clients that will visit her property on the following days: Wednesday 10am to 5.30pm; Thursday 10am to 7pm; Friday 10am to 7pm; and Saturday 10am to 4pm.

The statement goes on: “Footfall generated is likely to be between three and four visitors per day with only one customer being present at any one time and all treatment generally lasts between 90 minutes and 120 minutes.”

As part of the proposals, the current driveway will be extended to allow for two larger more accessible car parking bays to the front of the property. There are also a number of visitors car parking bays in the street.

However, all clients will be advised to use the homeowner’s driveway in order to “keep the street clear at all times”.

The statement adds: “The average age of the clients visiting the salon are elderly ranging between 50 to 90 with a proportion of clients being registered as disabled. The applicant has taken over 20 years to grow these relationships with her clientele.

“A large proportion of clients stay within the Renfrewshire area and either travel by taxi or use public transport which will have no impact on either the on-street or visitor car parking bays.”

In approving the proposals, subject to conditions, council papers said: “The applicant has advised that the transfer of their business to their home is a step towards them ultimately scaling back their operations, whilst they have also highlighted the positive relationships they have developed over time with many of their clients, which they are keen to maintain.

“It is considered that the use and scale of the operations do not raise significant adverse issues on the amenity or character of the area.

“The proposals also raise no significant adverse issues with respect to noise or disturbance or any implications in terms of air quality, while the operations are also sufficiently minor to raise no significant impacts on infrastructure, connections or services in the area, including parking provision.”
