The daughter of one of Scotland’s richest men has been struck off after performing a botched cosmetic procedure at her beauty salon.
Jennifer McLeish, whose dad is railway maintenance millionaire Alan McLeish, has been removed from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register following the incident at her Glasgow clinic, House of Aesthetics, in September 2019.
Her client is reported to have suffered a vascular occlusion – the blockage of an artery or vein – after undergoing a procedure with hyaluronic injections.
The complication, which can cause severe pain, occurs when blood is no longer able to pass through a blood vessel. If left untreated, the condition can result in skin necrosis and tissue death – otherwise known as gangrene.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) launched an investigation into Ms McLeish’s conduct following the incident. The watchdog found that prior to administration of the injections, Ms McLeish failed to advise her patient of the risks involved.
It also found that she failed to obtain informed or any consent from the patient for the procedure. Ms McLeish also failed to provide any follow-up care to the patient after being informed that she had sustained a possible vascular occlusion.
Ms McLeish describes herself as an ‘Advanced Cosmetic Injector’ on Linkedin. The NMC panel said that Miss McLeish’s fitness to practice was impaired due to the misconduct.
After failing to provide any evidence to the panel of improving her practice, she was struck off. It noted that she had shown no “insight, reflection or remorse” over her actions and the impact they had on her patient.
The decision reads: “This panel noted there has been no evidence provided by Ms McLeish that demonstrates her insight, reflection or remorse into her actions and the impact it had on Patient A, colleagues the wider profession, as well as her understanding of the significance of her actions.
“This panel has found that there continues to be no evidence of Ms Mcleish having insight or remorse into the charges found proved against her.
“In its consideration of whether Ms Mcleish has strengthened her practice, the panel noted she has not provided any evidence of taking steps to improve her practice.
“The panel found therefore that Ms Mcleish was liable to repeat the matters found proved in the charges and concluded that a finding of current impairment is required in this case to protect the public.
“The panel determined that, in this case, a finding of continuing impairment on public interest grounds is also required. For these reasons, the panel finds that Ms Mcleish’s fitness to practice remains impaired.”
The striking-off order will come into effect on May 24.
The Record has reported on a number of controversies surrounding McLeish in recent years. In 2020, we told how she was targeted in a ‘gangland vendetta’ as her house in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, was firebombed while her beauty salon was ram-raided.
Chilling CCTV footage shared with the Record at the time of the incident showed two balaclava-clad men attempting to break into her shop with a hammer before they leap back into a vehicle and flee the scene. The salon, based in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow, permanently closed following the attack.
It came a month after her home was firebombed. The £500,000 property in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, was ignited by flames after her Range Rover was blown up by a petrol bomb outside.
Weeks later, we shared images of graffiti outside a gym appearing to target her with vile slurs. The scrawls were found etched onto a wall of the David Lloyd gym, in Hamilton, near her home.
And in February we told how the tycoon’s daughter put her luxury home on the market following the attacks.
