‘Superwoman’ beauty queen suffers horror amputation up -25C mountain after frostbite

A beauty queen scaling a 6,000m mountain lost one of her fingers to frostbite after feeling a “tingling” in her glove.

Former Malaysian beauty queen Harveen Kaur Veena set out to climb Mera Peak in Nepal but her journey to the top was struck by terrifying weather conditions “like in the movies” and a horror amputation.

Powering through the -25C temperatures, her Sherpa guide suggested they turn back as they were still an hour away from camp. The pair made it to camp and Harveen, who had put on a second pair of gloves to battle the cold, had no idea she and frostbite.

After telling the Sherpa her fingers were “tingling”, Harveen used “two liners and a thick glove” and left them on until they descended to base camp. Steep terrains and rough weather conditions proved to be “no walk in the park” for the pair.

“It started snowing heavily. Zero visibility, clouds were dark in [the] blink of an eye. The temperature dropped to -25 /-27,” Harveen wrote on Instagram. She and her Sherpa made it to the top of Mera Peak despite the loss of one of her left fingers.

She added: “Mera Peak isn’t the most challenging climb in the world, it’s not a walk in the park either. The steep terrain, extreme altitude and glacier travel was something very new for me as I only started climbing a year ago. This indeed is a big achievement for me despite losing one of my left finger to frostbite.”
