If you don’t assume that hair clips are something people would express deep passion for, this just tells me that you’ve clearly never spent a day wrestling with a clunky claw clip that doesn’t keep your tresses securely in place, or that you had to constantly adjust whenever the back of your head met any surface. Or worse, encountered clips so cheaply made that they broke after one wear. Those who know the struggle are calling these functionally designed duckbill clips the answer to many normal hair clip woes — and they’re exceptionally priced.
Designed flat and wide with two rows of inner teeth for an all-day grip, these “life-changing” hair clips don’t press awkwardly into the scalp, especially when up against a car’s headrest while driving or even against a pillow while resting. One Amazon reviewer claimed that they can barely even feel them holding their hair up.
“I previously used large claw clips for a French twist, but they have always been uncomfortable— pulling my hair down, giving me headaches, and my hair fell out of them all the time because it’s so thick and heavy,” they wrote. ”[These are] flat against the back of your head, hold THICK hair in place and nothing is poking into your head to give you a headache!!”
You may also be familiar with the horrifying online lore about an emergency department physician’s assistant claiming that she had to surgically remove pieces of a claw clip from the skulls of individuals who endured car accidents while wearing them. While these since-deleted videos have been fully debunked, the flat design of these clips might put your mind at ease if you can’t unsee this grisly (but highly unlikely) scenario.
In matters of durability, I certainly don’t expect my hair clips to last till the end of time, however, the rate at which my claw clips bust at the hinges or the teeth snap off with little notice is rapid — and disappointing, to say the least. According to many reviewers of these flat clips, they are “well made, as they hold up with my rough treatment.”
The $8 price tag gets you eight different clips in assorted colors, or you can pay a little extra for a pack of all black. You can also read what others have to say about these actually comfortable clips before you buy.
Promising Amazon reviews:
″Life changing. No more pulling your hair back and having the claw dig into your skull because you rested your head on the back of your chair! These are well made, as they hold up with my rough treatment. They hold hair well. So much more comfortable than claws.” — Marcie Timmerman
“These are my favorite hair clips ever and I am a middle-aged woman who has had long hair almost my entire life so I feel like I have a lot of hair clip experience. I usually used the traditional claw clip in the largest sizes to hold all my hair up but to twist it up and then fold the ends over and tuck them in (a busy lady’s French twist) with one of those often didn’t work because I had too much hair. With these it works perfectly. And they provide all day hold. Plus, I don’t have to bend my head forward when I am driving because the claw clip sticks out behind my head – with these I can lean my head back on the headrest just fine! Two more things and I’ll be done…. These are sturdy. I am sure they will eventually break but I wear one of 3 (black, blue or brown) daily and not a single time or hinge or spring has broken yet. Last thing is that when I say they hold all day I mean it. I have several times fallen asleep in these (which never happened with the traditional claw clips) and not only did they not break but they held my hair through a whole night’s sleep!! Seriously, I have bought these for my sisters and I also have shared the link with others. Best. Hair. Clips. EVER.” — BookCrazyTwinMom (This review has been edited for length and clarity. “Thick hair approved and headache free!! Just got these and man. Instant LOVE!!!
I previously used large claw clips for a French twist but they have always been uncomfortable— pulling my hair down, giving me headaches, and my hair fell out of them all the time because it’s so thick and heavy. (Latina;)
I’ve been looking for a clip that would hold my thick hair the way I want it and not be so awful and bother me all day. Not to mention the claw clips take up so much room on the back of your head so they hit the headrest in the car and make you lean forward or take your hair down. These don’t do that!!!
They’re flat against the back of your head, hold THICK hair in place and nothing is poking into your head to give you a headache!!Can barely feel these holding your hair up, and not to mention super cute and trendy!! Life saver for me!! Wonderful purchase and will recommend these to all my thick haired ladies!!” — Georgy
