More than 250,000 passenger cars left Athens through the two major national highways to the north and west of the city on Thursday and Friday alone, police announced.
Most of these cars – over 170,000 – left on Thursday.
Since last Friday, April 3, when the Easter exodus actually began, a total of 629,214 cars left the capital area, up from 616,397 over the same period last year, police said.
Traffic on the two main highways had lightened considerably by Friday afternoon.
