Yvette Rice, founder of Austin-East red-carpet event the Pre-Prom Stop
Yvette Rice started the popular prom fashion show, Pre Prom Stop, for Austin-East Magnet High School students and is expanding to include other schools.
No one panicked when a firetruck rolled up to Cumberland Regional High School’s senior prom.
The bright red emergency vehicle was just another way students drew attention to their arrival at this spring’s parties.
With limousines apparently fading from fashion, many students arrived at proms in luxury vehicles — often emerging from beneath gull-wing doors opened by chauffeurs.
One couple waved to an enthusiastic crowd from a Jeep, although technically they were poking halfway through the vehicle’s roof.
That was at a May 30 prom for Camden students in Winslow, but the scene wasn’t too different at Cumberland Regional’s party, held that same day in Pittsgrove.

There, several young men made a daring debut, clinging to the side of a vehicle as it rolled through the parking lot.
Back in Winslow, three young ladies arrived in the back seat of an open convertible, then quickly climbed atop it to be better seen by cheering classmates.
Others students gave a nod to the romantic past, clip-clopping to their proms in horse-drawn carriages.
In a more modern touch, motorcyclists and four-wheelers provided a thundering escort for some Camden students heading to the Winslow event.
Once at the party, a prom-goer happily posed for photos with her family. That included her proud dad, one of the motorcyclists.
Finally, a Cumberland Regional student clearly identified a symbol of success and fame in today’s world.
She brought her own red carpet.
