Supercars will go Centre of Gravity testing after the upcoming Melbourne SuperSprint round held at the Australian Grand Prix.

The two-day test will take place at the Dunlop factory in Melbourne on March 25-26, just a day after the Australian Grand Prix.

Five cars including one each from Dick Johnson Racing, Triple Eight Race Engineering, PremiAir Racing, Tickford Racing, and Brad Jones Racing will be used on Monday.

On the second day a car each from Penrite Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Erebus Motorsport, and Team 18 will be put to the test.

Supercars also staged a Centre of Gravity test immediately after last year’s Melbourne SuperSprint.

Centre of Gravity is tested by a rig that tips each car on its side, measuring the angle that it would fall over and is measured in millimetres.

Last year, 0.4 degrees was found to be separating the two cars.

Since the first season of Gen3 marred by parity ended, Supercars has a historic wind tunnel test in America and rolled out a new aerodynamic package for 2024. It has also staged engine data tests at the Bathurst 12 Hour.

Supercars General Manager of Motorsport Tim Edwards said the CoG test is part of the continued validation efforts.

“CoG is another one of our parity pillars, and we will keep dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s,” Edwards, told Supercars.com.

“We’re always monitoring everything. We know a lot’s changed on the cars over the last 12 months, particularly with the Mustang, where they’ve had to reduce the panel weights a little bit to fall in line with the Camaro.

“We’ve done theoretical calculations of it, but we want to do physical tests and put it to bed, and this is a great opportunity to do so with CoG.”
