The EV revolution has not just stalled, it’s gone into reverse. In the first three months of 2024, sales of electric vehicles fell 14 per cent year-on-year as the new car market overall rose 8 per cent.
EVs’ share of registrations was below 13 per cent. In 2023, it was 19 per cent. Just last October, admittedly not a busy month on the forecourts, one in four cars sold was an EV.
In the UK, electric car sales are still growing, but largely due to company cars, and their share of new car sales is 15.8 per cent. In America, EV sales rose 2.7 per cent in the first quarter, compared with 47 per cent in 2023.
