When it comes to making your home a little bit smarter, you can always find some top tech at Amazon.

Whether you’re after smart doorbells, smart speakers, a smart security camera, or even a dongle to make your TV a bit smarter, Amazon is an easy place to find them.

Amazon’s own brands, such as Ring, Blink, Kindle, and anything based around the Alexa ecosystem will be at the top of most people’s wish list as they shop for smart tech.

And 2024 looks set to be a big year for Amazon-branded devices, with some of its new launches dominating its best sellers list.

We’ve compiled a top 10 of the most wanted smart home tech currently being snapped up by Amazon buyers in 2024, to see what the latest hot products are, and where the trends are heading.

Taking top spot in the Amazon tech best sellers list is the Fire TV Stick. This marvellous little device simply plugs in to your TV’s HDMI socket, and turns it into a smart TV.

New television sets usually have some sort of operating system built in these days, but it appears buyers realise they’re just not smart enough, and Amazon’s Fire OS paves the way to more streaming services, more apps, and an easier-to-use Alexa-based layout.

And it’s the most basic and affordable £34.99 Fire TV Stick Lite that sells more strongly than all the versions, with the £59.99 4K version coming in as the second-best selling device and the latest HD-enabled standard Fire TV Stick, priced at £44.99, taking third place.

Even the 4K-enabled flagship Fire Stick, the £69.99 Fire Stick Max makes it into Amazon’s top ten tech sales, in seventh place. These are clearly hot property at the moment.

The second-best-selling type of gadget in Amazon’s list is currently a smart speaker – and this one is a bargain, because it’s Certified Refurbished.

This means it’s actually pre-owned, but Amazon specialists have tested it, cleaned and inspected it, wiped any data and performed updates – so it’s pretty much as good as new.

It’s no wonder buyers are loving this particular listing, the 2022 version of the Echo Dot brought along some big upgrades and it’s normally priced at £57.99 – so choosing a refurbished version is a good idea.

Having said that, a brand new Charcoal version, priced at £54.99, is also sitting in the top 10, so it’s obviously not just the pre-owned speakers that are popular at the moment.

Video doorbells are cropping up on every house at the moment, or so it seems. And Amazon’s own-brand Ring seems to be dominating the sales. In fact, its £104.99 starter kit is one of its best-selling products at the moment.

Not only do you get the almost iconic doorbell in the package, but it comes with an Echo Pop speaker, which will serve as a chime.

This package deal is the fifth most ordered item in Amazon’s tech catalogue at the moment.

And, funnily enough, the £29.99 Ring Chime add-on, in white, is the sixth.

Amazon’s ubiquitous Kindle e-reader is the next gadget in our top 10, making two appearances in the top 20 best sellers. The one everyone seems to be buying is the standard, 2022-release Kindle at £84.99 – it’s the lightest and most compact one on offer.

But it’s interesting to see the more premium £159.99 Paperwhite version sells in similar numbers.

Fire TV fans clearly know how to get the most out of their home internet, because one of Amazon’s top-10 tech sellers at the moment is this handy little dongle, which hooks your Fire TV stick straight up to your router.

This makes for a faster and more stable connection, so if you’re streaming or downloading lots of content, it’s going to be very useful.

Another Certified Refurbished product tops the list, and this time it’s Amazon’s huge smart display, which sits in your home like a picture frame, but bundles in all the Alexa-based tech.

The 15.6″ display doubles as a Fire TV, which makes it ideal in the kitchen, because Alexa can also talk you through your shopping list, or give you cooking tips while you binge the latest drama series.

These displays are usually priced at around £250, so going down the refurbished route makes for a big saving.

It appears 2023 was a big year for smart security cameras, and the momentum shows no sign of slowing down in 2024.

This compact indoor plug-in camera is ideal for keeping an eye on pets, and it will alert you to movement or sudden sounds.

The £89.99 outdoor version also appears in the top-sellers list, as does Amazon’s Blink Mini indoor camera, which is a bit of a bargain at just £29.99.

A top-spec 10″ HD tablet for just over £70? No wonder this has made it into the best-sellers list. It is a Certified Refurbished item, which is why it’s around half its usual price, but these Fire Tablets are superb if you want a robust and affordable family tablet to pass around.

This one is the “with ads” version, so bear that in mind, and it’s only available with the smaller 32gb capacity, and in black. But what a bargain.

It’s no surprise to see a smart plug in the list of Amazon’s top-selling tech, they’re so useful for automating your household and scheduling gadgets, or just making things a bit smarter.

It is quite surprising, however, to see a £24.99 smart plug selling so well – particularly as decent devices can be had for less than half that price, like this Tapo smart plug at £8.99.

But of course, buyers understand that Amazon’s unique “Certified for Humans” classification will make it a doddle to set up and use, and you just know this will work seamlessly with Alexa commands. So perhaps that’s why people don’t mind paying a premium.

This top-spec outdoor lighting and camera system is nearly half its usual price because it’s Certified Refurbished. So it’s little wonder it’s selling so well. What a great way to boost your security.

Rather than just adding a small camera with lights built in, why not go the whole hog and get some big floodlights with a camera built in?

It’ll link up really easily to Amazon’s eco-system and, with 2,000 lumens of lighting bathing your porch, you’re always going to spot intruders through the HD camera feed.
