Now this is what you call a knife sharpener. Comprising a diamond grinding wheel and a honing wheel, this is the simplest and most efficient way of sharpening knives I have come across. It has settings for knives 12-60mm high, up to 5mm thick and unlimited length. It’s also silent to use, which means no toe-curling sharpening sounds.

This is handmade in Italy, so I’m not surprised this gadget is used by pro cooks at home. It heats up instantly, which means you get perfect toasties quickly, and also has special adjustable tongs so that sandwiches of all sizes fit. All you have to do now is manage your new toastie addiction.

Michael Graves kettle

Designed by the American architect Michael Graves, this stainless-steel statement kettle, which comes with a little red bird sitting on the spout, was first designed in the Eighties. Four decades later the modern iteration comes in two new colours, yellow and light blue, and there’s also a smaller option.
