A dog was found tied to a bus stop and left unattended, prompting Nottingham City Transport staff to step in and ensure its safety.
The animal was discovered earlier today by a driver, who alerted colleagues after noticing it had been left alone. A mobile inspector attended the scene and remained with the dog for around an hour in case the owner returned.
When no one came forward, the dog was taken to the company’s control room, where staff provided food, water and care.
The local authority’s dog warden service was contacted and has since collected the animal.
A spokesperson from he operator said:
‘It might be National Pet Day, but we weren’t expecting to temporarily adopt one ourselves!
One of our drivers found this dog tied to one of our bus stops earlier this morning.
‘Our Mobile Inspector attended and waited with her for an hour in case anyone came back. Sadly nobody did and she was brought back to our Control Room for some fuss, food and water until the Dog Warden could collect her – which they now have.’
