A charity created by a successful pet food business owner has opened a brand new glamping park in what it is hoped will create a boost for tourism in an historic Welsh town. The John Burns Foundation, whose namesake founder is behind Kidwelly-based Burns Pet Nutrition, is a charitable trust founded to help make a difference to the lives of people, and their pets, who are socially isolated and have additional learning needs or disabilities throughout the UK.
And it has now launched a brand-new venture in the town. Gwlad Glamping is a site of five glamping pods – two of which have wood-fired hot tubs – within 20 acres of farmland with coastal views and Kidwelly’s historic castle in eyeshot. All profits will be used to support the work of the charity and the site is dog-friendly and has a dog adventure park on site.
Ryan Peters, commercial manager for The John Burns Foundation, said: “We’ve already had some good reviews from some of our first guests who have said it is a real hidden gem and has got everything they needed. It is great having people visit the historic castle and explore Kidwelly whilst they stay here. Kidwelly is in between Gower and Pembrokeshire and I think it can get forgotten about. It is nice to have a place here where people can stay to visit all year round and see what the town has to offer.”
