HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KWCH) – The Hutchinson Fire Department called for help on Monday in response to a house fire.
Crews responded to the fire shortly before 5 p.m. in the 5400 block of E. 4th. They could see smoke coming from the fire as they left their stations.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the home fully engulfed. Winds gusting up to 43 miles per hour had spread the fire to two large brush piles, a vehicle and produced two small brush piles.
Additional fire departments were requested to bring in water to fight the fire. They were able to extinguish the fire in 1.5 hours.
The fire displaced three adults and one child. No one was at home when the fire started and no one was hurt.
“Due to the extent of the fire and amount of damage to the home, HFD is still trying to locate multiple pets that may have been in the home,” the Hutchinson Fire Department said in a release.
While on the scene of the house fire, crews were called to a second structure fire in the 200 block of West Avenue Fe. Mutual aid as requested and apparatus from the initial fire responded. Crews said the second fire was put out quickly.
The cause of the house fire remains under investigation.
