KOLKATA: A former IT sector employee, Ankur Sengupta was in acute financial crisis for the past few months but never neglected his pets, said his family members. “It involved a lot of money and he would often seek support and food through social media posts,” said cousin Bappaditya Mukherjee.
“Ankur was a soft-spoken person and dedicated his life to his fur babies,” said Kakali Bhattacharyya, a pet-lover from Park Circus who took back a rescued German Spitz that she had given Ankur last Dec. “He was in financial crisis and was unable to pay even the power bill during the scorching heat but never neglected his pets,” she added. .
“I rescued the pregnant Spitz last August from a place near Don Bosco School Park Circus where it had been abandoned, and named her Kalki,” said Bhattacharyya, who has been feeding about 45 stray dogs in the Park Circus area for the past three years. After tending to the dog and its two newborn puppies for a couple of months, she handed them over to Ankur because of lack of space in her small apartment, where she also has three other pet dogs.
“Although I have a very small space for living, I wanted to take back the two puppies, too, but I found they have nicely adapted to their new home. So I decided to leave them there for now,” she said.
