The series showcases the special bond between people and their pets. Showing the joy, responsibility and companionship, animals bring. Delving into what makes a pet a pet? In addition, calling attention to the huge amount of time and care that goes into looking after a pet from their food needs to their spatial and environmental must haves.  

We can’t feature every video submitted but the final episodes will celebrate the beauty and diverse range of interesting pets in Australia. 

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO FILM?

• We’re looking to see footage of kids showing us their amazing pets! Show and tell us all the things you love most about your pet and why. 
• Show us what they enjoying doing most, their favourite food, show us any cool tricks or funny things they do, it’s your opportunity to share with everyone in Australia about all the awesome things about your beloved pet. 
• Every child is welcome to share their story, no matter their way of communication. A parent/caregiver, family member, or friend can help express or verbalise the child’s message if necessary. 

Here is an easy checklist which we’ll need parents and guardians to follow along with their children – otherwise, we won’t be able to use their video(s) as part of the show!

PART 1: FILMING CHECKLIST 

INTRODUCTION VIDEO 

• Please do a short introduction video where we see the child and their parent / guardian together. The parent / guardian should introduce themselves saying their own full name, the child’s first name, the child’s age and where in Australia they are from.

MAIN VIDEO

• Choose a location to film which clearly displays the pet and their enclosure. This can be inside, outside or wherever you pet is naturally comfortable. 
• In the 60 second video, we’d firstly love you to introduce your pet, tell us their name and what type of animal and breed they are. Then it’s over to you to show and tell us all the wonderful things about them and things they can do! 
• For privacy and protection, make sure children only say their first name.  
• All background noise should be moderately quiet so the children can be heard clearly. 
• Please make sure all videos are filmed horizontally, not in portrait mode. See the reference image below. 

• All clothing and locations must be free from branding and logos for example, no Disney, Adidas, Nike logos or business names or school uniforms etc.  
• For copyright, please do not add any music to your submission. 
• If you want to submit an edited version. Please do not add any edited transitions and please upload the raw unedited footage to us alongside this.

PART 2: SUBMISSION CHECKLIST 

• Only a parent or guardian can upload a video.  
• By uploading your video(s): 
• You confirm that each adult and the parent or guardian of each child appearing in the video has consented to you submitting this entry, and that you have, where appropriate, sought the consent of the parent or guardian of any person under the age of 18 featured in your video; and 
• You agree to the ABC Terms of Use. To learn more about how your personal information will be handed, please see the ABC Privacy Collection Statement and  ABC Crowdsourcing Collection Statement. 
• Please upload the video(s) (along with all release forms) to the Dropbox¹ link HERE 

 When submitting, please rename all files to the parent or guardian’s email address, followed by the animal type, child’s state and video number. For example: ‘bigted@playschool.com_gecko_NSW_video001.

WHEN DO I NEED TO DO THIS BY?  

We’re planning to broadcast the series on ABC KIDS and ABC iView. We unfortunately won’t be able to include every video submitted, but should your video appear in an episode, a copy of the final segment will be made available after the episode has gone to air.
