Purina Pro Plan has launched Pro Plan AdvantEDGE, a line of probiotic-based dry food for adult and senior dogs and cats. The line includes two formula types — Adult Digestive Support+ and Senior Support+ — available for both species.
The company says approximately 70% of a pet’s immune system originates in the gastrointestinal tract. Adult Digestive Support+ combines prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics in a single formula. Senior Support+ targets three areas of health in pets age 7 and older, with distinct formulations for dogs and cats.
“A healthy digestive system is foundational to a pet’s overall health — and AdvantEDGE was developed specifically to target that,” said Dr. RuthAnn Lobos, senior veterinarian at Purina. “Probiotics are at the core of every formula, with each line going deeper where pets need it most.”
Adult Digestive Support+
The adult line features salmon as the primary ingredient and includes antioxidants for immune support. Dog formulas — available in adult, small breed and large breed sizes — contain no corn, wheat or soy. The cat formula is formulated for complete and balanced nutrition.
Senior Support+
Both dog and cat senior formulas feature chicken as the primary ingredient and contain no artificial flavors.
The dog formula — available in adult, small breed and large breed formats — targets three areas for dogs age 7 and older: cognition, supported by the company’s Bright Mind technology; immune health, through a blend the company says is clinically proven to increase immune response in senior dogs; and mobility, via glucosamine and EPA.
The cat formula is backed by nine years of research and targets longevity through the company’s Prime Plus nutrient blend, which Purina says is clinically proven to improve and extend the lives of cats age 7 and older when fed as a complete diet; immune health through guaranteed live probiotics; and healthy weight maintenance.
