On May 19, two shelter dogs received VIP treatment as they strolled down the red carpet at The Garfield Movie premiere in Los Angeles. This star-studded event was organized to help these dogs find loving homes, with Support from Vanderpump Dogs Rescue Center, co-founded by Lisa Vanderpump of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Cody, a 7-year-old dog with a crooked snout, has been with the rescue center on and off since 2020. After three years with a family, Cody was returned in late 2023 due to financial struggles. Wilfred, a 15-year-old dog with pointed ears, had a rougher journey, having been rescued from a high-kill shelter two months ago following his owner’s death. Wilfred underwent significant dental surgery and is now ready for a new home.
The event highlighted common reasons for pet surrenders, such as financial issues and the death of an owner, as noted by the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy. The glitzy occasion, shared by @vanderpumpdogs on social media, featured Cody and Wilfred posing with actress Cecily Strong, who voices a character in the movie.
Dr. Stacey Bone, a veterinarian with Hill’s Pet Nutrition, emphasized the value of adopting senior pets, stating, “Senior pets have so much love left to give, and their laid-back personalities make them perfect for lots of different homes.” Hill’s Pet Nutrition is offering a year’s supply of Hill’s Science Diet Senior Vitality dog food to anyone adopting Cody or Wilfred, aiming to reduce the number of senior pets in shelters.
The Hollywood premiere successfully showcased Cody and Wilfred’s personalities, promoting senior pet adoption and giving these deserving dogs a chance for a happier future.
