The exotic pets expo, ‘Show Me Reptiles’, was back in the Scenic City this weekend.
Dozens of families got to see how these sometimes intimidating animals can actually be really cool.
“This is something you can do at your home with your family, it’s not something that’s going to hit your wallet super hard. People kind of come together and share what they’re passionate about, it’s really beautiful,” said Murry Meyer, Owner of Paladin Exotics.
Meyer showcased his variety of arachnids. He says one of the best parts of the show is seeing the vendors share their interest with others.
“I love educating the public more than anything, that’s why I do the shows,” said Daniel Smith, Owner of D. Smith Reptiles.
Daniel Smith and his son Quentin Smith were the dynamic father-son duo of the event. They say they want to break down the stigma around snakes and show how great they are as pets.
“My little man here, he’s been around the reptiles since he was a little kid. I’ve got picture of him running around in diapers with snakes in his hands,” said Smith.
“I actually honestly like being with the animals and telling people about them,” said Quentin.
Show Me Reptiles will return to the Scenic City in June.
Until then you can find some of these exotic pet businesses right here in Chattanooga.
“To face their fears and come out and see it, they’ll realize they have been scared of nothing their entire life,” said Smith.
