The Bucks County SPCA is offering a reward for information about the shooting of two house cats outside a Falls apartment complex.
Maria Bello said her 8-month-old kitten “Jackie” underwent emergency surgery to remove one eye after the animal was found apparently shot outside the Aspen Falls complex in the the 130 block of Trenton Road.
Bello’s roommate’s 20-pound, 2-1/2 year-old white cat named “Tootsie” did not survive her injuries.
“This is beyond heartbreaking,” Bello said Monday.
The cats were mostly kept indoors, though they went outside for a couple hours every morning, Bello said. The SPCA believes the shooting happened between 11 a.m. and noon.
The day her cat was shot was the first time it had been outside after undergoing spay surgery more than two weeks earlier, Bello said.

Tootsie was found dead near the parking area, Bello said. Shortly after Jackie ran back into the apartment, where Bello found her with a bloody face and rushed her to a nearby emergency vet hospital for treatment.
At first Bello and her roommate thought a car struck the cats, but x-rays showed a projectile lodged near Jackie’s brain, Bello said. A projectile was found in Tootsie as well, Bello said.
The SPCA is awaiting test results to determine if the weapon used was a firearm or an air-gun that uses compressed air or gas, SPCA Chief Humane Officer Nikki Thompson said.
Meanwhile, the SPCA has posted a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the perpetrator, who would face animal cruelty charges.
Bello doesn’t know who would have targeted her and her roommate’s cats. No one in the complex complained about them, she said.
“I don’t want to do anything to aggravate somebody else and if that was the case, speak to me,” Bello said. “Do not hurt an animal. You don’t hurt something that is defenseless.”
