BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – Firefighters responded to a Monday morning residential fire after reports of a pickup truck crashed into a home.
According to a statement by the Bluefield Fire Department, around 7:00 a.m. crews were dispatched to the 100 Block of Tulip Street where initial reports of the homes front porch was on fire.
Mercer County 911 notified first responders that a second caller stated a pickup truck had struck the porch of the home after rolling down a hill and then caught fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene and observed a heavy fire engulfing the front facing side of a two story single family home where there was also a working vehicle fire on the front porch.
It took firefighters approximately 25 minutes to get the fire under control.
Officials with the department say, “Two pets were found during primary searches and were removed but sadly were deceased.”
One person was inside the home when the crash occurred but escaped before emergency crews arrived.
The fire department was assisted by the City of Bluefield Police Department and Bluefield Rescue Squad.
