A woman in Campeche, Mexico, got what was sure to be the surprise of her life last Sunday while taking a peaceful dip in a lagoon. The water was calm and refreshing, and it seemed like a relaxing afternoon… until it wasn’t.
While standing in waist-deep water, she felt what she thought was a piece of driftwood floating past her legs, so she reached down to grab it. But it wasn’t wood at all; it was actually a small alligator! Watch as she realizes what she’s actually holding and what she does next. It’ll crack you up!
The look on this poor woman’s face said it all! She was absolutely terrified, and we’re sure the young alligator was too! She’ll probably never go in that water again, and we can’t blame her one bit!

Of course, viewers were both stunned and amused after watching The Sun’s video and had plenty to say, leaving more than 2,300 comments. And some of them were just as funny as the video itself. Like @jeffmurray435, who joked, “He thought you loved him…” @Blueivypoison replied, “The way his head came out the water was funny as heck. He’s like what is going on here?! The Sun reported in an article on their site, “Experts say the reptile is thought to be a spectacled caiman (Caiman crocodilus), part of the Alligatoridae family.”
Caimans are small- to medium-sized reptiles found in freshwater habitats across Central and South America, including rivers, swamps, and mangroves. They’re primarily nocturnal ambush predators, feeding on fish, birds, and small mammals. While they typically avoid humans, they can become aggressive if cornered or protecting their nests, and, we’re just guessing here, if they’re picked up and hurled through the air without warning.
