The Cessna Citation M2 is a light business jet designed and developed by Cessna, a Textron Aviation company. Designed to seat up to seven passengers with a range of approximately 1,550 NM (2,875 km), the M2 became the company’s entry level jet after it ended the production of Citation Mustang in May 2017. The manufacturer has built more than 250 examples.
Simple Flying compiled a list of the Citation M2 jet’s unique features, as highlighted by Textron Aviation.

2 Fresh Air System
The Citation M2 cabin features an advanced air circulation system
Air circulation process
- Air enters the aircraft from outside
- Air is compressed and heated
- Air is cooled to cabin temperature
- Air enters the cabin through distribution ducts
- Air exits the aircraft through outflow valves
The Cessna Citation M2 features a fresh air system that uses a specialized process to keep the circulating air clean and fresh. Rather than relying on a recirculation process, the aircraft only uses dedicated air conditioning evaporators.
According to Textron Aviation,
“This aircraft features a Fresh Air System to keep cabin air clean. This system operates by bringing fresh air from outside into the aircraft through the engines. The engines compress and heat the air killing pathogens and germs. The air is then cooled and enters the cabin as cold or warm air before exiting aft.”

What Exactly Changed With The Cessna Citation M2 Development?
With the retirement of the Citation Mustang, the Cessna Citation M2 became the company’s entry-level private jet for potential customers.
The manufacturer claims that a complete air cycle in the Citation M2 cabin typically takes less than two minutes.
3 Enhanced avionics and systems
Avionics suite: Garmin G3000
Characteristics | Specifications |
---|---|
Maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) | 10,700 lbs |
Cruise speed | 404 knots (465 mph) |
Maximum range | 1,550 NM |
Ceiling | 41,000 ft |
The M2 is the first CJ to feature Garmin G3000 flat-panel avionics that uses small touchscreens rather than conventional bezel-mounted buttons. The intuitive flight deck features shallow menu bars and a user-friendly platform. The avionics suite increases situational awareness and results in a safer, more reliable flight.

5 Real-time diagnosis
Operators can get a real-time image of all parameters
- LinxUs™
- Garmin® GDL® 60 (Wi-Fi Datalink)
- GSR56 (Iridium Satellite Receiver)
- Central Diagnostics Maintenance system (CDMS)
The Citation M2 is equipped with Garmin GDL WiFi Datalink, a satellite receiver, and a maintenance system that detects, isolates, and provides solutions to run-time issues. The consolidated system monitors the aircraft’s engine performance and all critical parameters throughout the flight.
In the event of an anomaly, actionable solutions are determined and provided to the maintenance team, resulting in faster turnaround times. The technical team generally refers to the onboard diagnostics when conducting routine checks and inspections. Achieving real-time data means there is an additional layer of safety, and inspection and maintenance times can be significantly lowered. Early detection of onboard issues also reduces aircraft downtime.
