With the growing demand for larger, more capable jets offering a transcontinental range and advanced technology, Textron saw an opportunity to expand its product line to include a super-midsize plane that could compete with other high-end business jets.

Here is a list of 6 features that make the Citation Longitude exceptional:

1 Range and performance

A 3,500NM range at Mach 0.84

The Citation Longitude boasts a transcontinental range of 3,500 nautical miles with four passengers, enabling non-stop flights from Los Angeles to New York, New York to London, and Paris to Dubai. It can cruise at a maximum speed of Mach 0.84 and has a service ceiling of 45,000 feet.

2 Enhanced safety features

Overspeed and underspeed protection

For private jets that fly at very high flight levels, the tight speed envelope between overspeed and stall speed has long been an issue. The Citation Longitude flight management and autopilot systems incorporate overspeed and underspeed envelope protection to protect against aerodynamic stalls and the “match tuck” effect of a near-sonic overspeed condition. In addition, the aircraft is equipped with a stick shaker/pusher system for stall protection, “fly-by-wire” controls, and an automatic anti-skid braking system. These features enhance safety and reduce pilot workload.

3 Spacious and quiet cabin

11% more legroom than competitors

The Longitude offers the quietest cabin in the super-midsize segment, providing a serene environment for passengers. This is achieved through meticulous noise reduction efforts, including an expandable curtain that covers the airstair door opening and front pocket doors that separate the galley from the seating area.

The cabin is designed with a flat floor, a height of 6 feet, and a width of 6 feet 5 inches, offering ample space and comfort. It features double-club seating that may be fully converted to sleeping berths to accommodate up to four sleeping passengers. The 25 feet 2 inches cabin provides 11% more legroom than its competitors.

4 Advanced avionics suite

Garmin G5000 is the heart of the flight deck

The Garmin G5000 avionics suite is at the heart of the Longitude’s flight deck, featuring three large displays and four touchscreen controllers. It includes integrated autothrottles, emergency descent mode, synthetic vision technology, and optional Head-up Display (HUD) and Electronic Vision System (EVS) interfaces.

  • Integrated Flight Deck: The G5000 features three landscape-oriented flight displays with split-screen capability, allowing pilots to view maps, charts, checklists, and more simultaneously.
  • Touchscreen Controllers: Two intuitive touchscreen controllers serve as the pilot interface, making it easier to operate and transition between various pages.
  • Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS): This fully digital system offers precise performance throughout the aircraft’s flight envelope and includes features like Emergency Descent Mode (EDM) and Underspeed Protection (USP).
  • Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT): SVT provides a 3D view of the airport environment, including building footprints, taxiways, and more, to aid situational awareness.
  • WAAS/LPV Approaches: The system allows for WAAS/LPV approaches, providing ILS-like approaches for thousands of airports.
  • Enhanced Situational Awareness: Features like geo-referenced Garmin SafeTaxi airport diagrams and 3D exocentric views of the airport environment help reduce runway incursions and improve situational awareness.

The Cessna Citation fleet is known for its simple pre-takeoff procedures. The Longitude has 35 fewer pre-flight checklist items than its nearest competitor, allowing for less time spent between the ramp and takeoff.

The aircraft also features a partial recirculation system to keep cabin air clean and fresh.
