James Cleverly has sacked the independent chief inspector of borders and immigration after he leaked information suggesting that thousands of private jet passengers are arriving in the UK without having their passports physically inspected.
David Neal’s contract was terminated after he “breached the terms of appointment and lost the confidence of the home secretary,” a Home Office spokesman said.
Nealhad given interviews to the Times and the Daily Mail revealing details of unpublished reports he had conducted over the last year.
He has submitted a total of 15 reports to the Home Office since April that have yet to be published. The department insisted today that it was still committed to publishing the reports but has not given a firm timeframe.
