Ajay Devgn finally breaks his silence on years of speculation — from not owning a private jet to clearing the air on being offered Kabir Singh.

Ajay Devgn addresses private jet rumours, Kabir Singh casting buzz & media-shyness in a candid interview, ahead of his new film Raid 2.
Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, known for his quiet confidence and powerful screen presence, has often found himself at the centre of several media speculations — from rumours about owning a private jet to whispered claims that he was the original choice for major film roles. Now, with the release of Raid 2, the actor is finally addressing the gossip head-on.
In a rare and refreshingly candid appearance on BookMyShow Unscripted, Ajay sat down for a chat where he reflected on the rumours that have followed him throughout his career — and why most of them don’t hold water.
One of the most persistent pieces of trivia about Ajay over the years has been that he was the first Bollywood star to purchase a private jet. The claim has resurfaced every few years and been widely circulated as an example of his quiet affluence. But Ajay is finally setting the record straight.
“No, not at all,” he said, chuckling at the question. “I was planning to buy it and had secured one deal too. But it didn’t go through. So, it is not true.”
That brief but honest response put to rest years of speculation that had often been repeated as fact in entertainment circles.
The actor, who is married to fellow Bollywood star Kajol and is known for his low-key persona, was also asked about another buzz-worthy rumour — that he was initially offered the lead role in Kabir Singh, which eventually became one of Shahid Kapoor’s most iconic performances. Dismissing the claim with no room for ambiguity, Ajay responded with a simple “No.”
But it was when the host touched on the idea that Ajay doesn’t like giving interviews that the actor opened up in a way rarely seen in public. Unlike many of his peers, Ajay has often been labeled a media recluse, choosing instead to let his work speak volumes.
“This one isn’t a rumour,” he confirmed. “I am an introvert. I’ve always believed that my work should speak for itself. I don’t feel the need to constantly explain it or talk about it. That’s just who I am.”
Ajay went on to share how, in the early days of his career, people around him doubted whether someone so reserved could survive in an industry that thrives on showmanship and visibility.
“Initially, people told me I was in the wrong profession. They said you have to be an extrovert, you need to market yourself, talk about your work. But I wanted to do it my way. And now, when I look back, I think I made the right decision — jo kiya, theek hi kiya.”
Ajay Devgn’s most recent release, Raid 2, sees him reprising his critically acclaimed role as IRS officer Amay Patnaik — a fearless government official who takes on high-profile corruption. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film also stars Riteish Deshmukh in a villainous turn and introduces Vaani Kapoor as Amay’s wife, a role previously essayed by Ileana D’Cruz in Raid (2018). The sequel, backed by producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak, hit theatres on May 1.
Despite being made on a more intimate scale compared to big-budget extravaganzas, Raid 2 aims to deliver the same blend of realism, tension, and socially rooted storytelling that made the first film a hit. With India’s audience becoming increasingly content-driven, Ajay’s decision to return to a character like Amay Patnaik reflects his continued belief in storytelling with substance.
