When it comes to the world of private jets few names carry as much prestige as Gulfstream.
Earlier this year, the Gulfstream G700 jet – the company’s new flagship aircraft – began to touch down with their new, very lucky, owners.
While the G800, which took its first flight in June 2022, is expected to be fully certified by the FAA this year.
Both jets offer incredible levels of luxury and high-powered performance – choosing between the two of them would be no mean feat.

What’s it like onboard?
Both planes offer unreal levels of comfort and grandeur – there’s a reason billionaires chose to buy them, after all.
The G700 is slightly more spacious than the G800 and actually has the largest cabin of any Gulfstream jet.
The G700 has twenty panoramic oval windows – the largest in the industry – allowing you to soak in the incredible views.
The plane can be configured to provide up to five living spaces – including a grand suite with a shower. The G700 can seat up to 19 passengers and sleep 13.
The Gulfstream site explains: “Relax in our award-winning interior featuring the industry’s lowest cabin altitude, elegant finishes, and advanced cabin controls with tactile feedback.
“All-new, handcrafted seats convert into ergonomic beds for exceptional comfort on ultralong-range flights.” Sounds fancy.
But – to be clear – you won’t exactly be slumming it aboard a G800, while the newer jet may be slightly smaller, it still packs in plenty of comfort and space.
The G800 can seat 19 passengers and sleep up to 10 – and can be configured to house up to four living spaces.
Both jets offer customers bespoke interior design options, meaning you can choose out the finishing details to truly make the private plane your own.
Which plane offers better range?
The G700 is fitted with Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, which means they hit a maximum flying speed of Mach 0.935. It can long-range cruise a Mach 0.85 (652 mph) up to a maximum ‘high-speed cruise’ of Mach 0.9 (690 mph).
Alongside all that, the G700 has a range of up to 7,500 nautical miles.
While that range is impressive, the G800 just about beats it.
In fact, it’s Gulfstream’s longest-ranging model, capable of flying up to 8,000 nautical miles.
Like the G700, this jet also uses Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines and can cruise at Mach 0.85 for a maximum range of 0.9, according to Gulfstream.
However, it can cruise faster at Mach 0.9 (690 mph) while only sacrificing around 1,000 nautical miles of range.
The G800 can cruise at 41,000 feet, pushing beyond what most private jets or commercial aircraft are capable of.
Which Gulfstream costs more?
Sorry to break it to you, but when it comes to pricing both of these jets are at the top end of the market.
The Gulfstream G700, owing to its larger cabin size, starts at around $75 million, while the G800 is set to sell for $72.5 million.
Ouch. Looks like I’ll be flying commercial for a bit longer yet.
Who has a Gulfstream?
Given the price tag, it will likely come as no surprise to anyone that these jets are only bought by the rich and famous.
You may be aware that Tesla boss Elon Musk is said to own more than one of them – because he spends a lot of time in the air.
According to the jet-tracking site, JetSpy Musk owns a Gulfstream G650ER, registered N628TS.
Musk also has a second G550 private jet, registered N272BG. More recently, he’s said to have added the G700 to his fleet.
Hollywood star Jim Carrey is also the proud owner of Gulfstream – he has the V jet, which he reportedly purchased for $59 million in 2006.
While boxer Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather has a G650 – the former flagship jet prior to the introduction of the G700.
Dubbed Air Mayweather – the private plane has custom leather seats, plenty of legroom, and even a bedroom on board.
How the other half live, eh?
