The Traitors winner Harry Clark has addressed showing off his luxurious lifestyle with private jet snaps after backlash from fans and accusations he didn’t deserve the money.
The 22-year-old is now £95,150 richer after betraying not only his fellow Traitors Paul Gorton, Ash Bibi, Miles Asteri, Ross Carson and Andrew Jenkins, but also blindsiding Faithful Mollie Pearce and becoming the ultimate gameplayer.
Season two of Claudia Winkleman’s iconic murder mystery gameshow came to an end after more Bafta-worthy moments and heartbreaking betrayals than we could have ever asked for, leaving original Traitor Harry victorious.
Ahead of entering the Scottish castle, the army engineer declared his plans for the prize money, saying that if he won, he would treat his family and girlfriend, replace his car, and ‘start my new chapter in life’.
But fans have been left divided after spotting hints at his lavish lifestyle on Instagram before he was a reality TV star, with one commenting on some private jet snaps: ‘Hang on Hazza you had me believing you couldn’t afford a Toby carvery with the family in tonight’s episode… no wonder Molly is hook, line and sinker.’
Another wrote: ‘You played the game well at least but you certainly didn’t deserve the money.’
Harry has now defended his lavish travel and insisted it’s not all as it seems.
In an interview with Metro.co.uk, he explained: ‘I wish I had a private jet and I wish I had the money to go on a private jet, it’s a waste of money to be honest.
‘Everyone thinks I’m rich but I was very lucky to meet my other half, whose brothers have worked amazingly hard since they were 15, and I’ve somehow managed to silver-tongue my way through and weave my way into their lifestyle.’
Harry, who is dating CBBC presenter Anna Maynard, sister of I’m A Celebrity star Jack Maynard and singer Conor Maynard, continued: ‘Everyone’s like, you’ve got designer bags and this and that, all my designer bags are fake. I wouldn’t spend that money, because it’s a waste of money.
‘And I would never buy anything for myself, and anything I do have designer like my trainers, they were bought for me as a Christmas present.’
Since winning, Harry admitted he has treated himself to a new watch and a new suit, but plans on saving and making more which he can then spend on his co-star Mollie, after supposedly promising to take her on holiday.
‘She stitched me up saying this, because she said to me, “I was only joking” after she said it, and I was like, oh it’s fine, obviously we didn’t expect anyone to go in depth.’
However, Harry still has plans to treat Mollie in some way, as he continued: ‘When it comes to Mollie and holidays she deserves something I know that, but I’ve said I want to work like a donkey and make my own hard earned money as a man I like to think I am and just treat her through that, instead of just prize money.
‘I think that means a lot more as well, so then I’m working towards something always. I’m treating my family and I’m also working to be able to treat her out of my own pocket.’
Harry also plans on spending some of the prize on his partner Anna, taking her for ‘a lovely romantic holiday’.
Recalling his first phone call with her after filming the programme, he shared: ‘We just rang each other and she didn’t really care about the money, I was more like, “Do you still love me?” because we hadn’t spoken for four weeks!
‘I didn’t know where she’d gone, where she was at, what she was doing, what she was up to!’
Now he has big plans for reality TV after his ‘whirlwind’ stint. ‘I want to keep going on more shows, that’s what suits me,’ he said, saying he wants to show the ‘real Harry’.
‘Maybe even Strictly! I’d love to do Strictly and move my hips, and that’s my mum’s favourite as well.
Sorry, this video is no longer available.
‘She used to sneak me out without my dad knowing to ballroom dancing when I was little, so that would be good.
‘But even like I’m A Celeb, that has been my dream as a kid, to do the bushtucker trials and stuff because I can’t eat anything, I’m the fussiest eater, I’m a turkey dinosaur, chicken strips and chips kind of guy.
‘So if I had to eat maggots or a stew… I literally feel sick thinking about it, it’d be a challenge.’
One The Traitors challenge actually made Harry sick, as he was left vomiting over the side of the boat in the final episode.
Despite not having any other regrets, Harry admitted: ‘I just wish I wasn’t seasick so I could help the team on the last mission.’
The chance to win money from The Traitors is what kept Harry going throughout the competition, as he revealed he never thought about quitting because of the prize at the end.
Nonetheless, there were some hard moments, like backstabbing the other Traitors, his close friend Jonny’s banishment, and the final challenge which left Andrew fearing the worst abseiling down the cliff.
‘I was like, “He’s not going to do it, he’s not going to get across and we’re going to lose money. Because we would have lost money if people pulled out of the challenge. So I was like, “he’s not going to do it,”‘ Harry told us.
‘You can’t blame someone, it’s their fears, but suddenly, I think he was quite lucky that a gust of wind came over, because then he was hanging off the cliff and he had to do it because there was no way of coming back up, so he had to go across, and yeah, he smashed it.’
The challenges weren’t the hardest part for Harry, he told us, explaining that backstabbing his fellow Traitors was more difficult because it was such ‘a risky move’.
He said: ‘When it came to the roundtables, you were always a bit nervous but as soon as you knew no one was going for you, you could just sit back and watch the chaos unfolding, it’s the best feeling ever.’
At first, it appeared Traitor Paul was mastering the manipulation and turning on the others, convincing Harry to go with him.
But Harry claims that was part of his game plan to begin with, and he was just waiting ‘for the right time to pounce and then just basically take over’.
‘When it comes to that, I was always a monster, I was always like a killer Traitor inside.’
The Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
