Bombardier currently has four families of aircraft in production – the Challenger 300, the Challenger 600, the Global Express, and the Global 7500. The Bombardier Global 7500 is the company’s newest business jet, and it is also the largest that the company currently produces. It was introduced in 2016, and nearly 200 have been built and flown since then.

It is currently the largest purpose-built business jet in the world, per Sentinel Aviation. Because of how big it is, how new it is, and how many advanced features it has, the large business jet comes with a large price tag. Let’s take a closer look at some of the unique features of the Global 7500 and how much the aircraft costs in the market today.


A brief guide to the Global 7500

The Global 7500 was first announced in October 2010 by Bombardier. Originally, the company intended to introduce this aircraft in 2016. However, midway through the development and testing, Bombardier redesigned the aircraft’s wing. This delayed the testing for about two years, but the aircraft eventually made its first flight in November 2016.

The Global 7500 was officially awarded its type certificate by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2018, and it was introduced into service in December 2018. The certification process required over 2,400 hours of flight testing using five different testing aircraft. NetJets is one of the largest operators of the Global 7500, although it intends to convert many of these aircraft to Global 8000s once the aircraft is certified. Other notable operators include VistaJet, Rolex, and AvWest.

The aircraft has a fuselage over 111 feet long, with a height of 27 feet and a wingspan of 104 feet. This is nearly one-third longer than other competing models. The new transonic wing improved the lift-to-drag performance, and Bombardier also included winglets to add efficiency. The new wing also utilizes Fowler flaps for better low-speed lift and performance. The new wing and the light aluminum lithium airframe contributed to additional range and performance measures. Two General Electric Passport engines power the Global 7500, each providing over 16,000 pounds of thrust.

The aircraft has multiple world records for the highest speeds and longest flights.

The long fuselage allows for a cabin that is over 54 feet long with a width of over six feet. The interior cabin height is more than six feet as well, meaning standing up straight is easy, and in total, the airplane can comfortably fit up to 19 passengers. The fuselage diameter is similar to other Global models, and can be divided into four sections for use as sleeping areas, crew rest areas, or seating.

The Global 7500 can reach destinations 7,700 nautical miles (8,861 miles) away. It has a maximum speed of Mach 0.925 (710 miles per hour) and a cruise speed of Mach 0.85 (652 miles per hour). While flying, the Global 7500 can reach a ceiling altitude of 51,000 feet if necessary, although the initial cruise altitude is about 43,000 feet. The aircraft can take off on 5,800 foot runways and can land on runways that are just 2,520 feet long.

Buying a Global 7500 new

The price to purchase a Global 7500 has fluctuated slightly since its introduction in 2018. Initially, the estimated cost for this aircraft at launch was about $75 million when equipped, per Sentinental Aviation. Per Business and Commercial Aircraft, the Bombardier Global 7500 was selling for approximately $78 million in the second quarter of 2023, just a few years later. This price is for an aircraft that is fully equipped.

Operating costs for a Global 7500 can cost over $2 million per year. Per Liberty Jet, the total annual budget for operating a Global 7500 for 200 hours per year can range from $2 or just over $3 million for flying up to 400 hours per year. At 200 hours per year, the average cost per mile is about $18.37. At 400 hours per year, the average cost per mile comes out to $13.73.

These estimates are run with fuel costs averaging about $7.23 per gallon, as the Global 7500 has a fuel capacity of just over 51,500 pounds. These cost estimates also include maintenance, engine overhaul, crew, crew training, hangar rental, and insurance. Other costs may include potential upgrades, jet management, miscellaneous costs, or other handling fees incurred during operations.


What a Global 7500 may go for used

As mentioned earlier, the Global 7500 was officially introduced in late 2018. However, there is still a somewhat large used aircraft market. Nearly 200 Global 7500s have been produced since its introduction. The varying number of hours on the engine, total landings, and other factors like interior choices or upgrades included may cause these prices to vary by millions of dollars.

Per Guardian Jet, some active Global 7500s on the market can range from $65 million asking price to just over $75 million. Due to how recently the used aircraft were produced, there is not much of a change between used aircraft and purchasing new aircraft.
